A really comfortable cottage for an October visit to the Lancashire countryside.

The Old Loft makes excellent use of a small space. Everything but the bed is on the ground floor. The shower space is superb and the oven is excellent. We had a very comfortable couple of nights there. We would have liked a serrated bread knife as our homemade bread is notoriously crumbly and a small washing up bowl would reduce worries about chipping the crockery but we were delighted with all we found. Sitting on the patio on a balmy Spring evening will stay with us. Thank you.

This is perfect for short stays and I appreciated the welcome pack of milk and biscuits; but it is not really suitable for longer stays; there are issues with neighbours around parking. The owner advised where I should park (on an unrestricted public road) but was then asked to move my car as it was in a neighbours spot, despite there being plenty of space on the road. The friendly owner who lives in the main part of the house very kindly made space for me outside the building however. It would put me off going again and going out by car. As I was there to do some quiet work I did not use the car again during the week I stayed but it left a sour taste. The accommodation is lovely, not bright, which was fine. I missed in the details that there is no washing machine, and to be fair, there is no where to dry the washing anyway. The 'patio' area is the bench by the front door. There is no private outdoor space. The heating is linked to the owners property and the one radiator is only on once a day, in the evening; there is a convection heater, which worked well but in February needed to on most of the time. It might not be needed in warmer seasons or if you are out during the day.I would advise guests to bring their own towels, as those provided were not adequate in number or size, for a week. The owner kindly provided a second larger towel when I raised it.The walk up to the front door is very steep. A real issue was the lack of local amenities within walking distance. Slaidburn is a lovely hamlet but the pub is currently closed awaiting a new tenant. I was told by locals that the café was also closed - I'm not sure if that was seasonal, so there is nowhere to eat out within a reasonable walking distance. The local shop/ post-office is open regular shop hours and the people again were very friendly. The Old Loft has a generous fridge but limited preparation space and lacks a few essentials for cooking. It is a beautiful location and the local Witches Way footpath is opposite the property, the snowdrops were out and I walked most days for a couple of hours.Everyone I met was very friendly. The local Church has Norman features.I would recommend staying here but for long weekends and if you no mobility issues.
