The social hub of the home, relax upon the sofas and choose a film to watch on the Smart TV whilst the electric fire gently heats the space. Gather at the dining table in anticipation of a hearty home-cooked feast, prepared in the well-appointed kitchen. Alternatively, dine alfresco-style upon the decking, which rests in an elevated position with countryside views. Resting on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, you’ll find a wealth of opportunity for hiking, mountain biking and birdwatching at a variety of stunning locations, including the Yorkshire Three Peaks, White Scar Cave, Calf Top, Great Coum and Gastack Beck Waterfall. For a change of scenery, the historic city of Lancaster is home to a majestic Castle and the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park, boasting panoramic views of the city and beyond. Choose Meadowsweet Lodge for a wonderful retreat to Lancashire.

The quiet village of Hornby, in the lovely Lune Valley, is bordered by the famous Lake District to the north, and the Yorkshire Dales to the east. A delightful village, set on an old pack-horse route, Hornby is situated close to where the River Wenning joins the River Lune. Hornby Castle is set on a high hill overlooking the river and is known as the subject of one of Turner's best-loved paintings. Consisting of a scattering of traditional houses, a beautiful Anglican church, two pubs and a local Post Office with tea room, there are several 'undiscovered' quiet walks around the village and other, more frequented walks and places of interest close by. Nearby Kirkby Lonsdale is a popular town, with the Old Devil's Bridge a delightful spot to stop for a coffee beside the River Lune, while a number of antique shops and curios can be found in the town, along with an excellent selection of restaurants and pubs. 'Ruskin's View' can also be accessed from Kirkby Lonsdale, where you may walk in the famous artist’s footsteps and experience the views that inspired him.

However we encountered an issue with the oven which tripped the electrics. This has obviously been an ongoing issue as there was a sign advising not to use certain appliances at the same time as it would trip. As a consequence we could not cook any food. The owner reimbursed us for the cost of a takeaway. However the location meant we had to make unnecessary trips out as a family at additional cost as there wasn’t anything nearby to eat. We’d also purchased food to be cooked in the oven which was frozen and that had to be thrown away as we hadn’t brought anything suitable to transport it home. Additional unnecessary cost and we were refunded £34 for one takeaway. We also had to have our stay interrupted by the maintenance team coming to measure for a new oven , appreciate they need to do this in order to fix it but it didn’t help us feel settled and relaxed. Really disappointed as we had to completely change our plans and go out when the intention was to stay in and not travel (which I do for a living hence needing the break). Lodge and location are lovely, shame about the issue we encountered letting it down.
