Located in the village of Crosby Garrett in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Hayloft is a renovated detached barn conversion that is ideal for couples or individuals who wish to enjoy a holiday in the Eden Valley, visiting the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage is located in a quiet farming village, winner of Cumbria in Bloom 2025 and with views of the countryside, Although there is no pub in the village, Kirkby Stephen is a short drive away and offers a range of shops, traditional pubs, and excellent restaurants. There are walks from the Hayloft’s door across low fells and along empty valleys, including part of the Coast to Coast path. The quiet country lanes are ideal for cyclists. For bird watchers and nature enthusiasts Smardale Nature Reserve and Sunbiggin Tarn are close by.
Brough castle is nearby as is Appleby’s and also Penrith’s. Penrith also has the Rheged Centre, a visitor centre with craft, exhibitions, shops, cafe and cinema. The Chocolate Factory in Orton is sure to please chocolate lovers. The scenic Settle to Carlisle railway line is nearby. A round trip from Kirkby Stephen to Settle takes in the best of the dales scenery, including the iconic Ribblehead viaduct and gives time to explore Settle with its independent shops and cafes. The tourist towns of Windermere and Keswick are all under an hour away.

The Hayloft is a delighful 1 bed accomodation ideal for a couple to spend a relaxing break in comfort. Everything we needed was there, was spotless and in good order. The fresh flowers, milk and ginger cake were welcoming and much appreciated, and the owners were there on hand if we'd needed support. Set in a quiet location next to the Fells the village is a lovely spot for nature walks and my favourite is walking out on a starlit night when the sky is amazing. I thorougly recommend The Hayloft and have already booked my next visit.

The Hayloft is a great base for exploring the North West corner of the Yorkshire Dales and the Eden Valley. This place is well equipped and the hosts Nick & Jo are very kind, helpful and friendly. We were welcomed with cake, milk in the fridge and beautifully arranged sweet smelling Sweet peas on the table.
