Step into the kitchen/diner where you can rustle up mouth-watering dishes, ready to be enjoyed at the spacious dining table for 10 in front of the crackling woodburning stove. Further amenities can be found in the utility area which houses three fridge/freezers, a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a cloakroom for your convenience. Unwind in the generous sitting room where you can enjoy a family favourite on the projector style TV, as your pooch settles in front of the warming open fire. Climb the stairs to the first floor, where you can freshen up after a day of exploring with a hot shower or a bubble bath in the beautiful freestanding bath. Tuck the little ones up in the children’s bunk room, before choosing from three well-presented double bedrooms on this floor. The final bedroom can be found on the second floor, a twin with zip/link and gorgeous en-suite free-standing bath, ideal for those who like a little more privacy. Explore your local surroundings, where nearby you will find the welcoming Golden Fleece, The Inn at Brough, and The Outfitters Café Bar, ideal for those evening’s when you fancy a night off from the kitchen. The budding historians in your party will delight at the close proximity of the stunning English Heritage, Brough Castle, built on the site of the old Roman fort of Veteris. After a day of walking, give your legs a break and hop aboard the heritage Eden Valley Railway, where you can enjoy the breathtaking countryside views as you make your way between towns. Head to Kirkby Stephen where you can tuck into fresh fish and chips from Coast to Coast or settle down for a traditional pub lunch at The Taggy Man, followed by a leisurely stroll along the River Eden. The market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is a short drive away and is home to the Grade II* Listed St Anne’s Hospital and the delightful Courtyard Gallery. Venture into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where you can enjoy the delights of Lammerside Castle, Cautley Spout, the imposing peaks of Whenside and Ingleborough and Grassholme Observatory. After you’ve conquered the Dales, head to the Lakes for a memorable day of watersports at the famous Lake Windermere, soak up amazing views of the Langdale Pikes from Orrest Head and Queen Adelaide’s Hill, visit the former home of William Wordsworth or explore the wildlife rich Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve. The possibilities are endless with a stay at Glenwood House.

Brough is a small town in the Eden Valley, roughly four miles north of Kirkby Stephen and eight miles east of Appleby-in-Westmorland, at the foot of the North Pennines. Church Brough, on a former Roman road, was the backdrop for Norman Brough Castle (formerly the site of a Roman camp), while Market Brough, on a mediaeval route, is a twin settlement. The contrast between the two settlements is due to the duties they originally performed; Church Brough's dwellings are centred on a market square with a maypole, whereas Market Brough has a long and wide main street. The village's claim to fame stems from its role as a coaching town for the England-Scotland route in the 18th and 19th centuries, when more than ten inns served to the stagecoach trade.

Damp , mouldy , dirty. Walls full of mould and dirty marks , paint coming off the walls. Terrible smell of damp. Opened kitchen drawers to find mouldy cutlery. Smoke alarm beeping as battery had ran out . On disconnecting it to find it said change in 2016!!! Phoned owner immediately to complain he apologised and said he would sort it out. But wouldn’t be contactable as his phone was going in for repair. Did absolutely nothing. Booked a week over Xmas but as the house was so disgusting left on Boxing day after 3 days. Had to put all items in dish washer and clean the house so that we could try and at least enjoy Xmas day. Complained to Sykes. Still waiting resolution as the owner doesn’t reply and when he does he lies! Paid £1500 it wasn’t worth a penny. Even though owner admitted the state of the property unwilling to issue any sort of compensation. Extremely disappointed with how Sykes is dealing with the situation. Call after call having to explain the issues again and again as always speak to a different staff member on each call. Last email just says to take up with a third party as owner not willing to give any compensation. Just not good enough! No facility to upload photos on this review but I advise anyone not to book this property. I will be using trip advisor for a more detailed review with photos to prove the state of the property.

The house was really spacious and had everything we needed. The village of Brough is small but very charming with a couple pubs, cafés, and a castle in walking distance. Overall really enjoyed the stay!

We all are happy with the quality and standard of the house. It was a pleasure staying at the Glenwood and unforgettable experience.
