About this property

This refurbished cottage offers cosy country holidays in Great Urswick, a few miles south of Ulverston.

Retaining all the charms of an old country cottage, this home offers large stone fireplaces and character beams throughout, ideal for a family looking for an authentic feel to their holiday near the South Lakes.

Charm runs through this property from start to finish, beginning with the large Lakeland stone fireplace in the sitting room, with character beams straddling the ceiling. Another stone fireplace can be found in the traditionally furnished dining room before you reach the kitchen, retaining the charm of the property but fully equipped for your holiday. Upstairs are four comfortable bedrooms. The master has the benefit of an en-suite shower room, whilst the family bathroom can be shared between the other two double bedrooms and the twin.

To the rear of the cottage, a tranquil lawned area nicely secluded courtesy of character stone walls and perfect for a restful summer’s evening.

Great Urswick offers several local pubs of fine reputation and from the village, there are many gentle country walks to embark upon.

Ulverston is just a few miles north, with activities all year round and leading to the Lake District. Perhaps locate the birthplace of Stan Laurel there, head west to the South Lakes Safari Zoo or take a short drive south to the culture of Barrow-in-in Furness. Or take a gentle journey back in time to the steam age on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway.

Perfectly located for exploring a host of areas in and around the South Lakes, Oronsay is the perfect choice for a family holiday of charm and exploration to the south of the Lake District.

Great Urswick, with its two characterful pubs, including 16th century restaurant and 12th century church, is a hidden gem, a lovely village just three miles to the south of Ulverston. Great Urswick and its neighbour, Little Urswick, lie on opposite sides of the same tarn. The tarn is a wonderful wildlife habitat with a whole host of water birds occupying its sheltered corner. Birkrigg Stone Circle is one of several prehistoric settlement sites in the surrounding countryside. Locally, the start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths can be found. Nearby Ulverston is an ancient market town, which still holds a street market every Thursday and Saturday, with facilities including a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants, a cinema and a leisure centre. All of the attractions of the Lake District National Park are easily reached, with the Furness Coast boasting sandy beaches and good birdwatching. Windermere and Coniston are also within easy reach, and nearby family attractions include the Haverthwaite and Lakeside Steam Railway, Muncaster Castle and the Aquarium of the Lakes.
