Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber) is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale, situated at the foot of the magnificent and wild Howgill Fells. Sedbergh is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park and is located just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town has an olde worlde feel to it, with narrow streets, small stores, traditional bars, a notable school dating back to 1525, and a 12th century church. Dentdale, running 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the junction of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey, is the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales, with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls. Dent, with its cobblestone streets, has been a part of the valley since Norman times, and the nearby Dent railway station is on the historic Settle-Carlisle railway route.

A few suggestions to make the property even better: 1) no coffee pot! we had to go out and buy one. 2) there just 3 cups, plates, wine glasses etc. No breakages occurred but it would have been difficult to replace it/them if they had. 3) no soap holder in the shower (excellent shower, however). These are relatively minor details, but they are the kind of things that guests notice. Otherwise we had a very enjoyable week, we loved Sedbergh (a book town!) and the surrounding stunning countryside, we visited Barnard Castle and the glorious Bowes Museum, and also Hawes, the famed home of Wensleydale cheese. We hope to use Sykes Cottages again in the future.
