Cartmel is located in a quiet valley in the southern Lake District and is one of the most ancient villages in Cumbria.
The village has been developed around the 12th century priory, which still stands, and a fine array of 16th – 18th century buildings providing friendly inns, shops and eateries are set around the village square.
The 2* Michellin L’ Enclume Restaurant is located within the village as is the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding Shop and Cartmel Cheeses.
Cartmel has a wealth of amenities including four pubs, several cafes, the famous Cartmel village store, a monthly ‘farmers food market’ and not forgetting the renowned Cartmel races, which during race weeks brings a carnival atmosphere to the village.
