After parking up, cross the threshold into your new home-from-home to be impressed by the stylish, well-equipped kitchen, boasting all the necessary appliances required to make your self-catered stay a success. Settle down in the garden room, or venture outside to one of the patio areas and soak up your stunning surroundings with magnificent views to the Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and Lake District in the distance, while breathing in the fresh air, watching the house martins or listening to curlew in the adjacent fields as you delight in a cold glass of fizz.

Spend your evenings outdoors, sharing stories or planning your itinerary for the days ahead, before escaping to the sleek family bathroom, ready to treat yourself to a soak or warm shower before curling up in your chosen bedroom.

The master bedroom en-suite also benefits from its own standalone bath and walk-in shower. In the morning, kickstart your itinerary by venturing to one of the outstanding surroundings areas; Head for the Lake District National Park,

home to an endless array of outdoor activities including Lowther Castle and Gardens where you can take a leisurely stroll or family picnic, Dalemain Mansion and Historic Gardens and Aira Force Waterfall. Or challenge yourself with a plethora of walks, mountains to conquer, kayak and paddleboard excursions or cycling adventures followed by a relaxing coffee and cake in one of the numerous Lake District cafes. Venture into the Yorkshire Dales NP for some outstanding walking or cycling in Dentdale or Swaledale, or wander around historic towns like Hawes and Sedbergh, visit the famous Ribblehead viaduct or the Tan Hill Inn – the highest pub in Britain.

Stride into the Pennines AONB to experience the high fells, take a ride on the South Tyneside Railway or a stroll along the Pennine Way. Or simply enjoy the magnificent Eden valley, stretching from Mallerstang in the Yorkshire dales to the Solway Firth at Carlisle: enjoy a fine meal at one of the local pubs or take a leisurely walk along the River Eden or the local Lyvennet river (within easy walking distance from Larch house) ending at the local pub for a coffee or something slightly stronger. And for the kids, why not try the local Abbott Lodge Jersey Ice Cream Farm in nearby Clifton, the Happy Hooves Riding Centre, the King Kong Climbing Centre or Crafty Monkeys Painting Studio in Penrith. Or venture a little further to the Pencil Museum, the Puzzling Place or the Quarry and Mining Museum, all in and around Keswick. And there is also the popular GoApe in Ambleside. The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.

    Large property that was spotless. Modern kitchen and appliances, yet the house had lots of character. Perfect for our family holiday, on which precious memories were created. Eco-friendly and there is a cosy pub just a couple of hundred yards away! Great communication from the owners and the heating issues that were mentioned in one or two of the early reviews have been resolved. We stayed in December and the house was always warm. I would thoroughly recommend!

    Enjoyed our stay in this warm, comfortable house. Had everything we needed and more. Only a suggestion - would have been nice to have some Christmas decorations!

    Our short stay was uncomfortable due to the same issue as highlighted by previous reviewer. The property was extremely cold and we were not able to increase the heating level, we did call for help, but situation didn’t improve. There was inadequate supply of logs, just two, as a starter pack. Whilst I understand the owners are new to letting out their home they will definitely need to resolve the heating for any future booking, in particular during the colder periods of the year. Customer reviews will not improve if this is not addressed quickly.
