About this property

Greywalls is a quaint, detached cottage nestled in Maulds Meaburn, notable for its picturesque village setting for being close to the amenities of Shap, Cumbria. With a lovely enclosed garden and spacious living areas, the cottage is perfect for a family or group of six looking for a peaceful base from which to explore the Lake District and Westmorland Dales at the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The Westmorland Dales is an undiscovered area of rolling fells and limestone pavement with pretty villages dotting the landscape. The area lies to the north of the Howgill Fells in Cumbria, extending over 200 sq km from Maulds Meaburn in the north to Tebay in the south-west and Ravenstonedale in the south-east. The Westmorland Dales became part of the National Park in 2016 and is home to wonderful walking and cycling. There is the lovely market town of Kirkby Stephen and delightful villages to explore. Scenic golf courses abound at Appleby, Kendal, Penrith, Sedbergh and Silloth to name but a few. Greywalls has a traditional cottage exterior, whilst inside you will find a warm and contemporary accommodation; prepare your favourite meals in the kitchen/diner with seating for six guests, complete with a Smart TV for dinner entertainment, as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer so you can pack less for a longer trip with plenty of outdoor activities. With large windows looking out to the garden, the sitting room is a bright and airy setting to relax and listen to music on the Bluetooth speaker, or have a film night on the Smart TV by the warm glow of the woodburning stove. Kick-start your day with a hot shower in the ground-floor shower room, which boasts a spacious walk-in shower, a heated towel rail, WC, and a warm storage cupboard for drying clothes and boots. Greywalls provides three well-appointed bedrooms; one super-king-size downstairs, and on the first floor another super-king-size and a double, all of which have plenty of space for your belongings. The cottage features a peaceful enclosed garden with lawn, patio and outdoor seating to enjoy breakfast in the sunshine. Maulds Meaburn is a picturesque village nestled in the Yorkshire Dales, with the River Lyvennet running through, and preserves one of three remaining village greens in England where local sheep still graze. A short journey away, stock up on the essentials at Shap, with its shops and pubs, and an open-air swimming pool (open summer time only). From Shap explore the hidden gem of the truly unspoilt and rural Lowther Valley where you can also discover the fascinating ruins of Shap Abbey and Lowther Castle, and enjoy exceptional wild Lakeland walks amid the glorious valleys and fells of Swindale and Haweswater ruins. Enjoy dinner out at the local pubs at Crosby Ravensworth, Hackthorpe, Clifton, Askham and Bampton Grange. Pooley Bridge, lying to the northwest of the cottage, is a good destination for light lunches, a good dinner, pleasant walks, taking a trip on the steamboat on Ullswater, or discovering the historic architecture of St. Paul's Church; you can even set off from there to explore further the North Lakes Fells. For a livelier town, head south of Greywalls to Kendal, gateway to the gentle Lowland Fells of the South Lakes; from Kendal Golf Club to the award-winning Lakeland Climbing Centre boasting the tallest indoor climbing wall in the country, or the cultural pursuits of in Abbot Hall Gallery and Kendal Museum, there is plenty to see and do. For a stay in a traditional cottage, with all the contemporary comforts of home, Greywalls is an excellent choice for the best of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

In the isolated dales of the Eden district, Cumbria, rests the linear village of Shap. Although a small village, it is home to a long line of 18th century properties, pubs, shops, a Post Office, swimming pool and lovely memorial park. Shap Abbey lies half a mile away, surrounded by beautiful scenery along the River Lowther. Shap is an excellent location to explore the stunning landscapes of the Lake District National Park, as well as the Yorkshire Dales.

This is a well appointed and well situated property. The property had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Just a shame the weather wasn’t nicer to take advantage of the outside area. Found we were in easy reach of Penrith, Windermere and even went to Scotland for a day (only 1 hour away). Also easy to travel East towards York etc on the A66. Felt at home there, everything clean, beds comfortable and broadband was reliable for phones / smart tv. Would absolutely stay again.

    C. even with just 2 of us, it had its moments. But, overall, the location was magic for us as we love quite, peaceful, even sleepy, villages. Unspoilt and beautiful.

A beautiful cottage that was like a home from home! So well equipped with a gorgeous garden. The cottage is comfortable and has everything you would need for a family break. The village is so quiet and the area is spectacular. We would love to visit again. The Tsao family, Liverpool.
