Relax and unwind on the sofa with a cup of tea in hand, as the TV keeps you entertained. When stomachs start to rumble, settle down at the dining table to tuck-into hearty meals, which can be prepared in the contemporary kitchen with the electric oven and gas hob. Afterwards, a dishwasher offers an easy clean-up, so why not venture out onto the wrap-around garden to savour a cold beverage? As day draws to night, retire inside, and opt for a hot shower on the ground floor or head upstairs to relax your muscles in a bubble-bath. When your head's ready to hit the pillow, choose between two doubles and a twin bedroom, all with ample storage and there is a ground-floor double for those with limited mobility. For a wonderful retreat to Cumbria, choose South Lodge. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1102399, together sleeping up to 8 guests.

The medieval town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is situated in a loop of the River Eden, with the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Lake District Fells visible on the western horizon. This is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England, set in the green Eden Valley and steeped in history. It was previously the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is set between the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, allowing visitors to take advantage of the contrasting landscapes of these two National Parks, as well as various walking and cycling options and the town's superb leisure complex. Appleby boasts a fantastic assortment of high-quality independent businesses, cafes, and delicatessens that sell locally created food and crafts.

Woodland walk on the doorstep, 10 minute walk into the village. Village is small but has all you need and recommend visiting the butchers and the bakers, our son also loved the sweetie shop. The pizza shop is also good. Plenty of space in the lodge and very comfortable. Downside was no washing machine, which would have been good to have access to given we were there 5 days and the weather was temperamental so could have done with washing some clothes. A not cobwebby in places but not dirty. Could also recommend the owners put some hooks on the back of doors for hanging towels etc once used. Overall a really good stay!

Location could have been a bit clearer, people in Castle pointed us to the North Lodge which is a quarter mile from South Lodge,

We had been looking for a holiday home which had room for 6 adults and a child but most importantly had ground floor accommodation for my mum who has poor mobility. South Lodge was the perfect place for us. The lodge itself is situated a short walk from the town centre and has private parking (we had 3 cars) which is accessed through a gate. All the rooms are bright and spacious, many with views to the castle grounds next door (including the local rabbits). As this is an older building with sash windows, we sometimes found the living room a bit colder but the gas fire soon took the chill off. The kitchen is a good size and has everything needed for our stay (we were cooking Christmas dinner here) and is well-equipped. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at South Lodge and can recommend it to anyone looking for a private home to spend time in lovely Appleby.
