It is close to the sea on the owners’ family friendly development and is situated on the edge of the village of Arkleby. Set with other holiday properties this is an ideal area for exploring the Solway coast, Cockermouth and the northern fells and lakes. Enjoy stunning scenery without experiencing the same hustle and bustle of the central Lakes. There is everything you need for a family getaway. The property has lovely outlooks over farmland towards the Solway Coast, 4 miles away.
The market town of Cockermouth is 6 miles, Keswick, 14 miles, Buttermere, 12 miles, and Bassenthwaite Lake is 6 miles. Private fishing on the River Ellen for salmon and trout is 1 mile away and is free of charge. Golf and horse riding are nearby. Nearby local pool Arkleby Leisure is open 9am to 10pm and can be pre-booked online for private hire at £30 per hour.
New for 2026 we offer a lambing/farm experience in the months febuary march april for guests you can book this with the owner/farmer george prior too check in or add on when you are here (great wet day activity) depending on availability enjoy hands on experience includes bottle feeding the baby lambs , cuddling the lambs , watching lambs been born , seeing day old lambs bonding with there mothers , seeing the baby calfs , the farmer (george) will aswer any questions and introduce it all too you tell you the story from start too finish off our day too day farming and the sheep livestock , its all indoors you just need outdoor footwear great activity for everyone too join in we have hand wash/foot wear wash facilitys on site

Absolutely the best self catering holiday let we have been on!!Extremely well equipped and the underfloor heating was amazing 🤩 hot tub was an added bonus. Bedrooms comfortable and bathroom was fabulous!Lovely touch was the prosecco and chocs on arrival.Will definitely be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Holmegarth which was perfect for a relaxing family long weekend. The customer service from host George was exceptional and we appreciated him being in contact by text beforehand to confirm how we would like the beds set up in each room, providing the access code and giving us hints and tips for activities that were on locally during our stay.The property is very spacious with a huge fully equipped kitchen and is full of character, tastefully blending the features of the older stone cottage with a modern extension with log burner. The hot tub was ready to use and we enjoyed the added bonus of being able to book sessions in the private pool with sauna which was conveniently located just behind the property - and beside the pigs!While in a rural area, towns such a Cockermouth and Keswick were an easy drive away. We really enjoyed breakfast on the old train at nearby Bassenthwaite Lake Station and a walk along Derwentwater to Friars Crag followed by a pub dinner in beautiful Keswick. We very much hope to return again soon to explore more of the beautiful Lake District from this lovely base for a family getaway!
