About this Holiday Cabin

Situated within an 140 acre site of ancient woodland near Carlisle, Shank Wood Log Cabin is the perfect base for a secluded break to the Lake District. Guests will find a two mile stretch of the River Lyne closeby and the cabin has superb facilities such as a wood fired hot tub on the private deck and a cosy living area with wood burner stove. 

The cabin is set just twenty minutes drive north of Carlisle and within each reach of the Lake District, the Scottish Border, Kielder Forest Park, The Solway Coast and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Living accommodation

The cabin sleeps up to four people and has cosy ground floor living space with a wood burner stove. Upstairs, directly under the log roof, is the mezzanine-level sleeping area which is accessed via a wooden ladder. Quality furnishings in the cabin include a comfortable leather sofa and long bench which provides indoor dining space. Other amenities include two electric sockets for small electric items such as phone or laptop charges. Cooking pans and utensils are also provided.

Outside, a Weber gas barbecue sits on the covered veranda just outside the front door and there is a further decked seating area with table, four chairs and the wood fired hot tub. The cabin also has a new bathroom pod with hot shower, modern WC and hand basin.

Onsite facilities

Bring your own fishing rod and tackle or hire onsite for £20 each per stay. Salmon and trout fishing can be enjoyed on our river along with sea trout and wild trout when the fish are in season. There are eleven pools to choose from and guests are welcome to cook their first catch although we do ask subsequent fish are returned, plus all small fish so they are able to spawn.

The Hidden River Cafe and Reception has free Wi-Fi, daily papers and a complimentary tea or coffee at check in. A fine choice of locally grown and sourced produce, including a traditional weekly Sunday lunch, is provided in the cafe which is open daily. The Cafe also takes bookings for weddings, birthday parties and christenings.

Car parking facilities are located at the reception area.

The cabin is built from local, hand scribed timber and we aim to provide an eco-friendly break as far as possible. Lighting is supplied by solar panels and the interior wood burner provides warmth and heating. There is no mobile phone or Wi-Fi signal at the cabins so you can enjoy a truly relaxing break.

Wood for the fires, firelighters, bedding, towels, dressing gowns and washing up liquid are all provided. The solar panels provide enough energy for lighting but we also supply torches and candles.

There is no fridge at the cabin but guests will find the running river suitably chilled.

Availability

A two minimum stay applies and prices range from £150 per night for two people and £210 per night for four people.

Rod hire is £20 per rod per stay and dogs stay free of charge. We do ask that you bring a bed for your pet and don't take them upstairs to the mezzanine level. Please clean up after your pet and we advise that dogs wear a collar with their name on in case of impromptu walks in the grounds.

Go Ape adventure course at Whinlatter Forest Park in Keswick offers a great day out for the whole family
