Armathwaite, a charming, unspoilt rural community, is ideally located for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley, and the stunning Solway Firth shoreline. Two old pubs, both with popular restaurants providing good food, a local Post Office, and a traditional village shop are all located in the village. The Eden River runs through the settlement, and the area is known for good salmon fishing, as well as walking, canoeing, and climbing. Armathwaite Castle is a four-story Pele Tower on the river, and the 15th Century Church has beautiful stained glass windows. Between Lazonby and Armathwaite, the Eden Gorge is one of Cumbria's best-kept secrets, and it's well worth visiting.
