In 1262, a Cumbrian market town was awarded a charter to operate a weekly market and an open-air car-boot sale in the covered market hall.

Shops, taverns, and restaurants line the streets of Wigton, which also features a theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis, and a variety of other activities. 'A Time to Dance' by Lord Melvyn Bragg was set in Wigton and the surrounding area, where he grew up, and where he wrote several of his works. The cathedral city of Carlisle is just 12 miles away, as is Keswick, which is north of Derwentwater and near to Lake Bassenthwaite, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the North Lakes. In the covered market hall of this old Cumbrian market town founded in 1262, you'll find a market and open air car boot sale every Friday.

You'll find everything from a bar and restaurant to an amusement park and bowling alley in Wigton.

It was at Wigton that Lord Melvyn Bragg was born, and the town served as the setting for several of his novels, including "A Time to Dance" (which he referred to as Thurston in several of his writings).

There are numerous attractions in the North Lakes area within a reasonable distance, including Carlisle's cathedral, Keswick, Lake Bassenthwaite, and the West Cumbrian Coast, all within a 12-mile radius.

Nearby attractions include Hadrian's Wall, Gretna Green, and the Scottish Borders.

A note was left on our windscreen telling us not to park where we were. There were no double yellow lines or no parking signs. I think the person was disgruntled because they couldn’t park. Excellent bus services to many local towns. Couple of good supermarkets very close by.

The property itself was very well stocked and everything seemed new. The owner was kind enough to provide basic cleaning and cooking necessities which were much appreciated! Also had a few great nights of sleep and dabbled in Ken’s DVD collection. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

The bedroom was like a stylish hotel room with a plush bed. Loved the little touches like a jewellery box and a little torch by the bed. Wish we could have stayed longer! We went to Carlisle for the day, which was only a 20 minute drive, where we visited the castle and cathedral. Also went to Siloth beach, again only a 20 minute drive. Would definitely recommend this great apartment.
