Guests say

Blackgill Lodge is a well-received cottage offering a warm, cosy, and peaceful retreat with stunning views and a touch of luxury. Guests appreciate the friendly and welcoming owner, thoughtful touches including a welcome basket, and the property's well-equipped nature. While the approach via an unmade track is noted, the tranquillity and comfort seem to more than compensate for this rustic detail.

The majority of guests found the cottage clean and comfortable. However, one review mentioned the presence of dog hairs and the need for a deep clean, slightly affecting the overall cleanliness perception.

The location is praised for its beautiful views and peaceful setting, ideal for a relaxing getaway. Some guests noted the bumpy access track and remoteness, but these aspects are also seen as contributing to the charm and quietude of the location.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a home-from-home feel. The provision of a roll-top bath and luxury touches contribute to a high comfort level.

The cottage is considered well-equipped and well-stocked, with amenities like Sky TV adding to the convenience. The mention of ambient lighting being insufficient for reading suggests a minor area for improvement.

The owner's thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome basket and treats for both humans and pets. While these gestures are highly valued, it is noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.

The cottage is lovely and warm and cosy and very well equipped, a home from home. We met the owner briefly on arrival who was very welcoming and friendly. The welcome basket of goodies was a nice touch. The views from the cottage down to the sea are amazing but it's a little remote - great for peace and quiet! We drove to Staithes (15 minutes) and used the bus service from Easington to Whitby and to Saltburn which are about half an hour each away. The half mile unmade track leading to the cottage from the main road is a bit bumpy but not really a problem. The roll top bath was a touch of luxury and there was lots of hot water and big towels. The only slight negative was the lighting, very ambient but not easy to read by! Overall we would recommend it as a relaxing getaway from it all.
