This can then be enjoyed in the dining room, swap funny stories regarding your trip or plan where you would like to head next; before washing off the day’s adventures in the bathroom. When the evening draws to a close tuck the kids into the fun-twin room, it’ll feel like a sleepover, before getting some well-earned rest in the double room; both rooms are furnished with plenty of storage to house your belongings. 8A Station Road lies in the heart of Redcar, home to numerous activities, spend a sunny day at the golden sands of Redcar Beach before indulging in the region’s famous lemon top ice cream or tuck into fish and chips while strolling the sea front. Be sure to go to the top of Redcar Beacon for expansive, breathtaking views over the North Sea before refueling at one of the many pubs or restaurants including Central Park or The Beacon Lounge. Travel slightly further afield to spend the day at the historic town of Whitby, taste their famous fish and chips or climb the infamous 199 steps leading up the Whitby Abbey, the brave among you will want to visit the Dracula Experience. The whole family will enjoy spending the day at the nearby theme parks of Lightwater Valley or Flamingo Land which both boast a variety of thrilling rides and attractions. 8A Station Road is a wonderful base for families looking for a seaside getaway in Redcar and the North East.

Redcar is a coastal town on the east coast, just north of Saltburn. In one direction, towards Saltburn Bay, are miles of golden sand beaches. You can watch the local fishermen bring in their catch of the day while indulging in some of Redcar's famous lemon top ice cream, a favourite of Prince Charles who visits the town frequently. Spectacular views can be had from the 80-foot-tall, vertical Pier known as "Redcar's Beacon," and the museum housing the "Zetland," the oldest known lifeboat, was built in 1802. If you find yourself between Redcar and Marske in the south-east, you can take a stroll along The Stray, a two-mile stretch of grassland between the golden beach and coast road. Just a short drive away, in the Victorian resort of Saltburn, you'll find an abundance of charming tea rooms, delicious restaurants, and unique shops. You can ride what is likely the oldest operating funicular railway in the United Kingdom (the cliff lift), which descended its first 120 feet on June 28, 1884. The 600-foot-long pier, the only one of its kind along the entire northeastern coast, can be found at the end of the lower promenade, and the town can be reached via a stroll through the beautiful valley gardens. The Danby Moors Exhibition Centre and the bustling market town of Helmsley, site of the ruins of a Norman castle, can be found to the south, and the North York Moors provide excellent walking opportunities. Redcar is a great starting point from which to explore the surrounding area.

My only issue was it was too warm, not a problem I have had before in winter

The only hiccup with us was the shower being so low.

Plenty of room. No expense spared on furnishings or the artwork. Good location near the sea front. All in all, good value for money. The security system took a bit of getting used to and, being six feet one inch tall, I had to bend almost double to take a shower. It's also funny to open your kitchen doors and find yourself in the back lane. Still, these are small matters. I would certainly consider booking Balmoral Cottage again, perhaps in the autumn when things are a little quieter along Redcar's Esplanade.
