Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, once a thriving fishing village, still has a few fishing cobles that can be seen going out to sea.  If you are lucky enough, you may spot the dolphins or some seals and will often see the local ’dolphin watch’ team around.  Set in the bay is “Ebb and Flo” by Sean Henry, a popular attraction being the only current, east coast offshore sculpture.  Regular exhibitions and music events are held in the Maritime Centre, where the café overlooks the lovely bay.  Newbiggin has friendly Italian and Indian restaurants, and a selection of cafés and small shops.  A local bus stops practically at the door, where a discounted weekly bus ticket takes you all around the county. 

A family-run Italian ice cream parlour dating back to the 1950s is in the centre of the promenade next to the bandstand.  A glorious sandy beach is the backdrop for the sweeping bay, ideal for picnics and exploring the rock pools.  N. . .
