Low West is a charming, characterful cottage with a cosy farmhouse kitchen and an Aga, set in a quiet location near Hexham. It boasts a pretty garden with countryside views, frequented by friendly horses. The property is ideal for dog owners and those seeking a rustic, homely feel. While some guests noted it could benefit from updating and a deep clean, the overall experience was enjoyed, particularly due to the helpfulness of the owner and the property's proximity to local walks and town amenities.
Guests have indicated that the cottage could benefit from a deeper clean, with some noting the presence of dirt, stains, and odours. However, the property was found to be easy to keep tidy during the stay.
The location is highly praised for its countryside charm, proximity to Hexham, and suitability for dog owners. It offers easy access to local walks and is convenient for visiting tourist attractions.
The beds were found to be comfortable, and the Aga kept the kitchen warm. Some guests mentioned the house was quite cold in places and the mattresses were hard, suggesting room for improvement in overall comfort.
The cottage's facilities, including the kitchen equipment and heating, were generally functional. However, guests noted that some areas of the property would benefit from refurbishment and maintenance, such as the draughty back door and peeling wallpaper.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the host, therefore this category cannot be scored.

Lovely cottage where we spent Xmas and cooked dinner on the Agar. Owners very helpful and nearby if problems. Location high up from the town meant an uphill walk back but we knew this. Basic accommodation ,a downstairs loo would have made it better with 4 adults but we coped adequately . Very homely and country feel would make a summer visit great but we were very cozy in December .

My husband, grown up daughter and myself have just had an enjoyable stay at Low West. The cottage could do with updating and redecorating but was adeqate for our needs. The heating did breakdown but was fixed as soon as possible. The cottage owner lives nearby and was very helpful. Don't book this cottage if you want top spec and all mod cons. The garden is pretty with a view up the hill but although enclosed is not secure. Our dog did escape for a few minutes and then we had to put on a lead in the garden at all times.Overall we had a lovely time and enjoyed the surrounding countryside.
