Low West is a charming, characterful cottage with a cosy farmhouse kitchen and a lovely garden, set in a peaceful location ideal for dog owners and those seeking countryside walks. The town of Hexham is within walking distance, offering amenities and dog-friendly spots. Guests appreciate the warm welcome from the helpful owner.
Several reviews mention the need for a deep clean, with reports of dirty carpets and unpleasant odours. However, the presence of pets may contribute to these issues.
The cottage's location is highly praised for its proximity to Hexham and the surrounding countryside, offering a blend of rural charm and convenience.
Guests find the beds surprisingly comfortable and the kitchen warm due to the Aga. However, some find the living room cold and the mattresses too hard.
The property is appreciated for its original features, but guests note the need for refurbishment and maintenance, including updates to decor and functional repairs.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owner, so this category cannot be scored.

My husband, grown up daughter and myself have just had an enjoyable stay at Low West. The cottage could do with updating and redecorating but was adeqate for our needs. The heating did breakdown but was fixed as soon as possible. The cottage owner lives nearby and was very helpful. Don't book this cottage if you want top spec and all mod cons. The garden is pretty with a view up the hill but although enclosed is not secure. Our dog did escape for a few minutes and then we had to put on a lead in the garden at all times.Overall we had a lovely time and enjoyed the surrounding countryside.

We chose this cottage mainly because of the location and suitably for our anxious dog. In these aspects along with a cosy farmhouse kitchen and wet room/ entrance which was perfect for dogs, bikes and boots. We read other reviews about the general state of repair of the cottage and this did not put us off and did not detract from our holiday at all. The other highlight was the delightful cottage garden that was visited by horses and other animals. The owner was friendly and helpful. Will stay again.

Lovely country cottage backing onto countryside at the edge of Hexham. It is old so could be said to be dated inside and still retaining original features! So, expect steep stairs, old Aga, older furniture, wooden sash windows, etc. The cottage has a nice rear garden backing onto fields which often have a couple of friendly horses which are happy to visit. The parking space for a car is a good size but a little tricky to park in due to the narrow road and side vegetation/walls. The house would benefit from some re-decoration and cupboards and side rooms could be cleared/de-cluttered. The back door is draughty and the lock difficult, so should be replaced. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and Hexham itself is a nice town. The owner, who lives nearby is nice and welcoming :-)
