Guests say

Low West is a charming, characterful cottage on the edge of Hexham, ideal for dog owners and those seeking a peaceful countryside retreat. Guests praise its beautiful location, cosy farmhouse kitchen with Aga, and welcoming host. The garden is a highlight, often visited by local wildlife and horses. While the cottage is comfortable and practical, some guests note it is dated and would benefit from refurbishment and a deeper clean. Overall, it offers a homely, relaxed atmosphere perfect for exploring the area and enjoying the outdoors.

Cleanliness is mixed, with several guests finding the cottage clean and tidy, while others mention issues such as stained carpets, cobwebs, and occasional odours. Some reviews note the need for a deeper clean and attention to detail, but bedding and towels are generally described as clean.

The location is highly praised, with guests enjoying the peaceful countryside setting, proximity to Hexham, and easy access to walks and local attractions. The garden and views are frequently highlighted as standout features.

Comfort is generally good, with guests appreciating the cosy atmosphere, warm Aga, and comfortable beds, though a few found mattresses too firm or the house a little cold in places. The cottage is described as homely and practical, especially for dog owners.

Facilities are adequate for most, with a well-equipped kitchen and good heating, but several guests mention the need for updating, repairs, and decluttering. Some appliances and fixtures could be improved, and the garden, while lovely, is not fully secure for dogs.

There are no specific mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

A charming old farmhouse in a very quiet location on the edge of Hexham. Very comfortable and clean. Would book again.

I had read the previous reviews on the property so I was aware that it was old fashioned & needed updating but I wasn’t aware how bad it was. It needed a thorough clean & redecorating. The back door wouldn’t lock properly, & there was a big gap round the edges. The garden fence & gate had gaps whereby my dogs could have escaped. This had been mentioned before, so I hoped that had been dealt with. The carpet in the lounge was badly stained & smelt of dog urine. There was a strong smell of kerosene fuel both inside & outside the house. Some of the electrical equipment, lights etc didn’t work properly. There was also a problem with vermin getting into the kitchen, I think this had happened before. It’s a shame because the house & garden could be stunning if redecorated , some minor repairs & cleaning were done, without losing the charm of the property.
