Englewood Cottage is a well-loved property praised for its cosy atmosphere, charming character, and peaceful surroundings. Guests appreciate the comfortable furnishings, scenic walks from the doorstep, and the friendly neighbours. While some noted minor issues with hot water and windows, the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction and a desire to return.
Unfortunately we’ve been unable assess this category comprehensively enough based on the reviews we’ve received from guests about this property.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to nature, and scenic walks. Some guests found the remoteness ideal for a peaceful retreat, although a few noted the distance to amenities and the need for careful dog walking due to nearby livestock.
Guests find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of the cosy coal burner, comfy settees and beds. However, some guests mentioned lumpy mattresses and a lack of shower curtains, which slightly impacted the overall comfort score.
The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and guests enjoyed the period features. However, there were comments about the lack of internet, difficulty operating the TV, and the need for better hot water facilities, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.

A charming, stone-built, terraced cottage situated in a wonderful position just outside the village of Allenheads. The cottage dates back to 1854 and much of the original charm and character has been retained. The spacious accommodation is very well equipped and furnished. The cottage is surrounded by spectacular moorland and boasts a garden which runs down to a small stream. The garden is accessible to the rear of the property, where there is a shared pathway running between the property and the private garden.
Situated in the heart of the North Pennines, in beautiful Allendale, the village of Allenheads is reputed to be the highest village in England and stands over one thousand, four hundred feet above sea level. Once an important lead-mining area the village now hosts an interesting display of former life in the settlement in the Allenheads Heritage Centre. Surrounded by beautiful heather-clad moorland, the area is well known amongst walkers, nature lovers and bird watchers. In addition to the town's own heritage centre, the Beamish Open Air Museum is nearby – showing a recreation of a mining community. Other attractions within easy driving distance include the fascinating city of Durham, Hadrian's Wall and the attractive market towns of Allendale, Alston and Hexham. With so much to see and do, one visit isn't likely to be enough!
