Guests say

Fidra is a well-loved cottage in Embleton, boasting stunning views and a prime location close to the beach and local amenities. Guests appreciate the comfortable living spaces, well-equipped kitchen, and the warmth of underfloor heating. The property's peaceful setting and proximity to nature add to its charm, making it a favoured choice for a relaxing getaway.

The cottage generally maintains good cleanliness, though some guests noted areas that could be improved, such as under sofas and between cushions. These instances seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is highly praised for its outstanding views, proximity to the beach, local shops, and pubs. It's considered a highlight and a strong selling point of the property.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a homely living room and decent-sized bedrooms. However, some mentioned that the creaky upstairs flooring and heavy dining chairs could detract from the comfort for some visitors.

The property is well-equipped for a self-catering holiday, but feedback suggests that the kitchen could be better equipped and some maintenance issues, such as a broken toilet seat and a leaking window, need addressing.

While some guests missed a welcome gift and an information file, these amenities are not consistently referenced across the reviews, and it is not clear if this is a standard offering or an occasional extra provided by the property.

About this property

Overlooking the beautiful coast of Embleton, Fidra is a quaint stone house, ideal for a family, with easy access to the local beach and other amenities along the Northumberland coast. Be welcomed by this pretty property and park off-road beside a lovely grass garden with a picnic bench, ideal for breakfast in the fresh air. Upon entry you will find the living areas on the first-floor to maximise the views, beginning with a spacious sitting room with several stylish sofas, armchairs and a brilliant view of the coast through glass sliding doors. The sitting area ia accompanied by a stylish wooden dining table complementing the black leather of the sofas and there is an amply filled kitchen where you can cook up a storm.

As well as a ground-floor bathroom, the three bedrooms all rest on the ground floor, each with storage and a homely feel, including a double and two twins. Embleton is a stunning location offering a magnificent sandy beach, where you can spend a day enjoying sandy walks and watersports amongst the waves, taking a picnic featuring local produce. More walks can be found at Embleton Quarry Nature Reserve, the historic Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum and of course the stunning Northumberland Coastal Path. Embleton has a great selection of eateries, and a little further from the property you can explore the fascinating ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.

Make a seaside holiday to remember with a stay at Fidra.

The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area. For the keen golfer, Dunstanburgh Links Course is about 1 mile away - just one of several excellent courses in the vicinity.

The cottage is so well positioned with incredible views and excellent walks from the door. We had issues with the heating again (it was too hot for us, and we couldn't work out how to change the settings so opened windows) but no complaints otherwise!

It was very cold during the day and we rang the number given to ask how to turn the heating on, received no response. Nevertheless the views make it worthwhile.

Gorgeous views of the sea from the upstairs window. We had read the previous reviews on the kitchen and brought our own pans but this wasn't necessary as new ones have been added. Plenty of parking space on site. The only negatives were the boiler running during the night as it's right by the main bedroom and a thick winter duvet in July which meant we were very hot at night. Some information about the local area/where to recycle glass etc would have been very helpful as the only information we could find was a request to water the plants. During the summer (2024) there is currently a different street food truck at the memorial hall every Thursday evening selling takeaway food which we really enjoyed and would recommend to other guests.
