The Hemmel is a semi-detached two-bedroom cottage, finished to high standards with the comfort and enjoyable experience of the guest at the forefront of the owner’s mind. When you’re finished taking in all the exposed stone and gorgeous woodwork within the property then take a walk around the grounds and say hi to the owner’s pet alpacas, and pet sheep including our favourite ‘Nigel’.
The Hemmel is the ideal property for either a couple who appreciate some space and luxury, friends taking a celebration break together or a small family of four (not including a baby or toddler as a travel cot can be provided). The two 3ft zip and link single beds in the second room can be fitted together to make a super kingsize bed. Those lucky enough to take advantage of the main room will appreciate the contemporary four-poster bed and enjoy the larger size en-suite which was designed to larger than average. The open-plan living space is just fabulous and has so much light from the skylight windows and large patio doors which lead to the enclosed garden. Whether socialising or watching the kids, the open space is a really enjoyable place to be whether you’re having fun or just relaxing with a cuppa.

Superb acommodation, clean, spacious, light, comfortable and well equipped. Large, uncluttered and fully enclosed garden ideal for dogs. Very quiet location but well positioned to explore the whole of the Borders region. Just 15 minutes to main roads taking you to North, South, East or West. Very friendly and helpful hosts who know the area well.

What a stunning place to stay! The hemmel is beautiful, a real attention to detail has been put in by the owners and has everything you need. Is beautifully decorated throughout and spotlessly clean and has lots of storage in the bedrooms. We loved having 2 bathrooms with 2 teens and the private outdoor patio area was lovely, especially with the nice weather we had. There is a village shop about 10 minutes away and we got a supermarket delivery but they are only 20 minutes away as well in Berwick on Tweed. The surrounding area is beautiful and quiet and close to lots of places to visit. We visited nearby Bamburgh, Alnwick, Craster along the beach to Newton by the sea and Seahouses. Also had a trip to Edinburgh been just over an hour away to the park and ride at Newcraighall as recommended by Joanne the owner. We also had a lovely trek with Robin the alpaca, which even my teens liked after being reluctant at first. Overall had an amazing stay and will definitely return in future.
