Guests consistently praise the Iona 10 Palace Street East for its prime location, cleanliness, and comfort. The property is well-equipped, offering a homely atmosphere and catering to various needs, from family gatherings to golfing parties. Its proximity to local amenities, historical sites, and scenic walks adds to its charm, although some guests noted the town could benefit from a clean-up. The thoughtful touches by the owners, including a welcome with tea, coffee, and biscuits, are frequently mentioned, enhancing the overall experience.
Reviewers are unanimous in their appreciation of the property's cleanliness, describing it as 'spotless' and 'well-presented'. The high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to the comfort and appeal of the holiday rental.
The property's location is highly praised for being central and convenient, close to shops, eateries, and historical walks. Its proximity to public transport and attractions like Lindisfarne and local beaches is also appreciated, although some guests felt the town itself could be better maintained.
Comfort is a highlight, with guests finding the furniture and beds particularly comfortable. The spaciousness and warmth of the house contribute to a relaxing stay, although one review mentioned sofas that were not as comfortable as desired.
The property is well-equipped for self-catering, with a modern kitchen and ample facilities. Guests appreciate the secure storage for cycles and the well-equipped kitchen. However, some noted the lack of an outdoor sitting area and issues with drying clothes.
The owners' thoughtfulness is evident in the provision of a parking permit, rapid responses to queries, and welcome items such as milk, tea, coffee, and biscuits. While these gestures are highly valued, it is politely noted that such gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed.
Iona is a stunning three-storey period townhouse located in the quiet, old historic part of Berwick within the Elizabethan Walled Defences. It boasts many original features and has been furnished to a high standard with a mix of antique and contemporary furniture. The property is an ideal base for families, friends, ramblers, golfers and cyclists to explore the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Beauty with many places of interest including Bamburgh, Alnwick and Lindisfarne. Off the entrance hall there is a large dining room with a dual-aspect bay window giving the room a light and airy feel. There is also a comfortable sofa and armchair to watch TV or sit and chat. The large, beautiful kitchen is extremely well-equipped and features sleek granite worktops and a solid oak central island with Butler sink and breakfast bar with stools. The modern shower room off the hallway features a walk-in shower cubicle. The striking staircase leads you to the bathroom which includes a shower over the bath. The sitting room boasts a stunning bay window looking over a small green and the old historic Governor’s house. The room itself has the original exposed polished floor boards as well as beautiful roman blinds and curtains made by a local interior designer. There is also a large master bedroom with a king-sized bed and a double bedroom, both with original sash windows. Both bedrooms, and the double bedroom on the second floor, are fitted with luxury pillow top mattresses for extra comfort. The staircase leads you to the second floor, here you will find a large double bedroom with an antique hexagonal table and stools set into the bay window. There is also a delightful twin room with two bay windows giving views over the small green opposite and the surrounding historic buildings. Iona is close to the magnificent Elizabethan walls over which you look onto the river estuary and sea. A further stroll around the Walls will take you onto the quayside of the River Tweed where you can sit at the Lowry café and enjoy the views. There is a myriad of charming shops, restaurants and art galleries dotted throughout the little streets of Berwick. A characterful cottage in an ideal location for exploring this astounding Northumberland location.
Importantly, Iona is within easy walking distance of the railway station. A brisk walk to the station will be around 10 to 15 mins however if one is carrying suitcases it would be advisable to get a taxi. The cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle are around 40mins travelling time by train.

Berwick is Englands most northerly town and changed hands 13 times whilst the English and the Scots fought for around 400 years for control of the Borders! The history is delightfully shown in the towns museum. Nowadays this small coastal town retains much of its charm, with quaint narrow streets enclosed within great Elizabethan walls, fortified with bastions, built against attacks in the 1500s and walks along these offer spectacular views over the coast and river estuary to Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island.

Thank you for the parking permit. The house is lovely and large and we had plenty of room. It had everything we needed (we did run out of coffee but bought some locally). It was perfectly placed for the shops, places to visit, and restaurants/cafes. Thank you for letting us stay.
Judy
Everything was good. It was comfortable and spacious. We had everything we needed. Everything worked ( we struggled with the toilet roll holder in the downstairs loo
Philip
The place is spotlessly clean, comfortable and has everything you need. The area is really quiet and is only 100 yards from the walls on the mouth of the river tweed. If we come back to berwick, and I'm sure we will, we will definitely look to come back to this wonderful property
