Come bedtime and you can make your way to the opulent bedroom which comes complete with a sumptuous double bed just waiting for you to sink into, as well as delightful French doors leading out onto a pleasant courtyard where on warm summer evenings you can imagine enjoying time together drinking and dining alfresco. In the morning, you’re already in the perfect location for exploring the delights of Bamburgh and beyond. You are in walking distance of the amenities of Bamburgh and the castle is a must-visit while you are there. Head off from here and carry on along the Heritage Coastline where you will find miles of sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages and breath-takingly beautiful castles. Other towns worth visiting in the region include Alnwick, Seahouses (just a few miles away) and you can even head to the border and visit the ever-popular town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Activities to look forward to in the area include golf, sailing (from Seahouses to the Farne Islands), birdwatching, hiking, cycle rides and horse-riding. For a romantic break in the heart of a beautiful coastal town, Mistletoe Cottage has it all.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

It couldn’t be more convenient and the owners are very helpful.

It was very comfortable and well appointed with some lovely homely touches. Cleanliness and standard of accommodation was first class. A wonderful view of the castle was the icing on the cake.

The property had everything I could require (with perhaps the exception of a “proper” oven) although this wasn’t a major problem. Considering the proximity of the property to two of Bamburgh’s most popular pubs, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise. All furnishings were very comfortable, particularly the bed (I do like a firm bed and got one here – lovely!). A few more hangers in the wardrobe would have been appreciated, although again, this is a minor grumble, as there was lots of drawer space. Free parking in the village can be problematic, but obviously in a village as popular as Bamburgh you wouldn’t want it spoilt by masses of cars everywhere. If you do manage to secure a spot around “The Middle” (green space in the middle of the village) be aware that if you take your car out for the day you probably won’t get a space back before the evening. There is a pay and display car park beneath the Castle (NOT the Castle car park itself). Back to Mistletoe Cottage itself. It’s perfect base for couples or singles who wish to explore northern Northumberland. It was very clean and tidy had everything I really required, and because the cottage is detached you didn’t get disturbed by much in the way of noise. I loved Bamburgh, where everything is just a stones throw away. The beaches are stunning, the Castle, magnificent (can be seen quite clearly from the cottage) and I was very sorry that I had to leave at the end of my holiday.
