The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an rspb reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The house is lovingly furnished and a real home-from-home, which is what you want when you are having a family holiday - particularly at Christmas. I have to say, the Christmas decorations were beautiful and really enhanced our experience. The location was perfect for exploring the coast and so lucky to have lovely pubs and restaurants in walking distance. A mirror in the attic bedroom would've been nice, but otherwise, faultless!

We stayed here over the New Year and what a wonderful stay - the owner contacted me by text before we arrived so if I had any questions or needed anything I had contact. The house is great - one of the best we have stayed in - the owner left us generous welcome gift which was very much appreciated and well thought out. The house was spotless; furnishings lovely and the kitchen was so well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owner has thought of everything and the little things too! There were 6 of us (5 adults and a 15 year old) - we had plenty of room; we never felt overcrowded. The house is a 5 minute walk to the harbour and a lovely beach. There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops within a few minutes walk - we liked the Harbour Inn down the street which served good food and had a lovely atmosphere. I cannot recommend Number 17 highly enough, so much so we have booked for next year!
