About this property

A beautiful stone-built single-storey barn conversion settled into the outskirts of Amble, Dairymaid’s Cottage is the ideal couple’s getaway to Northumberland, with easy access to local amenities. Park off-road in front of the property and unpack with ease, making your way into a beautiful sitting/dining room with wooden flooring, a bare brick fireplace housing a woodburning stove and a selection of stylish sofas where you can relax with a coffee, and here you will also find a dining area for two. When mealtimes call, cook a romantic meal for two in the beautifully finished kitchen, sporting contemporary grey furniture and ample amenities, as well as a second sitting area. Matching the décor from the living areas, a beautiful king-size bed sports grey décor with hints of yellow, and there is a lovely contemporary bathroom where you can shake the sand from your hair after a long day at the beach. Outside you can enjoy breakfast in the sunshine in a quaint patio area before heading out to explore the local scenery. Amble is a bustling seaside town with a lot on offer for guests, beginning with the selection of tasty eateries and independent stores, so why not explore the town before enjoying the river and harbourside views on offer? Amble allows you to explore the local wildlife with easy access to Hauxley Nature Reserve, or there is the option of a wonderful boat trip to Coquet Island, a RSPB nature reserve located just off the coast. Further from the property you will find the fantastic town of Warkworth, where there is the ruins of a fascinating castle and a sandy beach, or head over to the market town of Alnwick where there are many independent shops to browse. Make the ideal romantic holiday for two with a stay at Dairymaid’s Cottage.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an rspb reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.

Dusty cobwebs everywhere in the cottage and bathroom skirting boards not cleaned covered in dust. A hoover would be great to clean up sand brought in which being a seaside location is inevitable, brush and dust pan no good for older couples ! Oven not cleaned food bits left in the bottom. Would like more essentials, no one wants to take washing up liquid or toilet rolls on holiday, and what was supplied was insufficient for a week! Cafetière obviously for decoration only as we wasted some of our ground coffee as it just poured out the grounds with the water, had to buy one from Morrison’s. Wi-Fi didn’t work used up so much data, on phones as it only came on occasionally and even then was poor connection. Rug in sitting room was dirty too, perhaps not the best colour for a holiday let. The cottage is ‘okay’ but a few small simple changes would easily take it to excellent. Not the best value for money, we stayed in cheaper places in the area with far better facilities and much cleaner.

The cottage was very comfortable and attractive with all the features and services we needed. The peace and quiet was amazing and proximity to Amble brill. A great place to discover or re-discover the wild beauty of the area.
