A must-visit (check opening times) is Alnwick castle. Alnwick Castle has always been a magical place and starred as the magical Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret, but few people know the true secrets hidden inside its stones. This summer The Wizard Earl returns to his castle and opens the doors of the Alnwick School of Magic. Join him in our thrilling family show as good battles evil. A truly enchanting family show. Also enjoy strolls around the pretty grounds of The Alnwick Garden, tour the Bailiffgate Museum, or cross over the Lion Bridge to enjoy vistas of River Aln and its picturesque landscape. Head for the coast, stopping off at Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum, brimming with history and beauty, discover the Northumberland Coast AONB and its sweeping, golden sands, or head to the remains of Dunstanburgh Castle, an English Heritage site. Round off your trip in Bamburgh, where you can practise your swing at the local golf club, hike up to Bamburgh Castle, or stroll along the shoreline. Experience a magical getaway at The Wizard's Loft.

The Duke of Northumberland's residence, Alnwick Castle, dominates the charming and ancient market town of Alnwick. The Castle Gardens, which were first made available to the public in 2002, contain Europe's biggest cascading water feature, an amazing (and massive) treehouse, a charming rose garden, and a stunning, walled ornamental garden that will please both amateur and professional gardeners. The castle is well-known for serving as the backdrop for Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter movies. While the London to Edinburgh stage coach once travelled through the town, the small lanes have hardly changed, and the Market Place, with its stone cross, continues to be the focal point and the ideal location for the weekly Saturday market.

She LOVED it. In fact all 6 of us loved it and it's exactly as stated. Brilliantly located in the centre of Alnwick, free parking close by and within walking distance of the castle and gardens for our HP themed weekend. Good communication with the owner - remember to look at both sides of the door for the key safe as it might not be the first one you see!!

And the welcome basket was very much appreciated. A few wee things - the blinds in the upstairs bedroom don't really keep out light very well. It would have been useful to have more mugs and a little more cutlery so that we didn't have to wash up after every coffee/meal. And the scaffolding coming down at 8.15 on New Year's Day was very unexpected and a bit noisy! ( Don't know whether the owner knew that was happening - it was lovely that she left a bottle of champagne as an apology for the scaffolding)

The property was easy to find with very convenient parking immediately in front of the door for unpacking, before moving only a few minutes walk away after a couple of hours. The apartment is immaculately clean and very comfortable. Although central for all of Alnwick’s facilities and attractions, with good views across the market square towards the castle, it was also very quiet. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise, and we found the information folder with details of restaurants very useful. Our adult ‘children’ were brought up in the era of the Harry Potter books being published, and we all enjoyed exploring the themed furnishings and decor - and also the Harry Potter games compendium and DVDs ! We were particularly grateful to the owners for returning a bag full of our belongings which we were careless enough to leave behind very promptly. We would love to visit again one day, and will recommend it to friends.
