The sitting room has some lovely features, including a beautiful inglenook fireplace to get cosy in front of and large windows, welcoming lots of light. This room then leads you out into the enclosed patio area, where you can sit and savour a light beverage and take in the beautiful, natural ambience. The village of Butterknowle has a pub just a short walk away, or why not venture into the Vale of Durham where there are plenty of exciting attractions for you and the kids to explore? Hamsterley Forest, a delightful 2000-hectare oasis and Raby Castle, the grand historic estate are two hugely popular destinations and are definitely worth a visit. If you enjoy walking, there are options for short and longer routes on the Bishop Auckland trail, passing through well-tended woodland and peaceful countryside close to Auckland Castle and Binchester Roman Fort. For those who love a round of golf, Bishop Auckland Golf Club is a first class parkland course with beautiful verdant landscape across ancient grounds. This is the perfect countryside retreat to escape to, in a scenic, rural setting.

Set between the pretty market towns of Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle is the village of Butterknowle, near to Hamsterley Forest. Head West to spend the day in Barnard Castle, set on the site of a Roman fort, where the medieval castle ruins still tower over the River Tees. A short drive eastward from Butterknowle brings you to bustling town of Bishop Auckland.On the outskirts of the town you can wander the ancient stones of the Binchester Roman Fort, the largest in the county. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this village, with the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just a few miles away, whilst an array of interesting towns and a wealth of historic attractions can all be found within an easy drive.
