Wayside Cottage in Consett, Northumberland, is consistently praised for its charm, cleanliness, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches from the host, the property's proximity to local pubs, and its suitability as a base for exploring the surrounding areas. The absence of Wi-Fi is noted, but for many, it enhances the cottage's appeal as a peaceful retreat.
Reviewers consistently mention the immaculate condition of the cottage, indicating a very high standard of cleanliness that contributes positively to their overall experience.
The cottage's location is highly regarded for its peaceful village setting and proximity to local pubs and walking paths. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the North Pennines, Northumberland, and Durham areas.
Guests find the cottage to be very comfortable, with a warm and cosy environment. The large bed and bedroom are frequently mentioned as particularly comfortable, although one mention of a mattress potentially needing replacement prevents a perfect score.
The cottage is well-equipped and cared for, with a wood burner and quality furnishings. However, some guests noted the lack of Wi-Fi and a modern bathroom fan, suggesting room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.
The host's thoughtfulness is evident in the provision of homemade scones, fresh eggs, and biscuits, which guests found delightful. While these gifts greatly enhance the experience, it is politely noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.

A very comfortable bed and quirky frog bathroom ! Well located with so many great places to visit within an hours drive and some lovely walks too. This was our second visit and we will probably be back again.

The cottage was clean, comfortable and light, and had everything we needed. No issues with the on road parking. Local pubs were good. A great place to see the area from. We walked, cycled and drove the moors. Wonderful views and history.
