Stayed for 5 nights, very good lodge, only 5 minute drive to Barnard Castle, up a mile long private drive, through couple of gates, very quiet, apart from few lambs and the odd pheasant shouting. Very comfortable inside, good shower. Plenty logs for wood burner, says heating controlled from bedroom, but main control is in kitchen. States that there is a coffee machine, but it’s just a cafetière. Nice walks with dog down road/track, into wood. Very easy to miss entrance on road. Main gates are automatic just drive up to them.

We had a great time here. It’s very quiet and peaceful. If you like to walk to amenities it’s not the place for you. When you turn in the park gates it’s about a mile to the lodge. Ideal if you want peace and quiet surrounded by nature. The lodge had all we wanted and needed. It was nice and cosy with central heating and lots of logs for the wood burner. It doesn’t take long to get to Castle Barnard for shops and pubs or Bishop Auckland for a choice of big named supermarkets and is well placed for many other places to visit.

Just what we needed for a peaceful get away. Karen was very understanding when we had to delay our arrival by a few days due to family illness. We were so glad we could still visit. The Lodge is very private, set in beautiful grounds which we loved exploring. We particularly liked to walk down to the pond, spotting deer every time. Barnard Castle is 5-10 mins drive away with all you need for shops etc and a great starting point for walks in the local area. The Lodge is bright and cosy, with a particularly comfy bed. The original doors and shutters etc give real charm and character. We enjoyed a log fire each evening with a good supply of logs. Great shower with constant hot water. We liked that the Lodge felt homely and welcoming especially with our dog with us.
