Pasture View is the ideal location to explore the local area and beyond. Standing above the River Tees, Barnard Castle has many independent shops, cafés, restaurants, a weekly market as well as a monthly market. It is also home to the magnificent Bowes Museum and the ruins of its castle. Walking, cycling or rambling are popular activities in the area as well as visiting some of the attractions that Teesdale has to offer.
Directly behind the cottage is a lovely walk to Barnard Castle ( good footwear is advised as it can be muddy in wet weather ) through fields, then along Deepdale River before reaching the River Tees. High Force waterfall is within easy reach as are Raby Castle and Deer Park, Tan Hill (the highest pub in England), Hamsterley Forest and the market town of Richmond. A little further afield places of interest include the cathedral city of Durham, Yorkshire Dales or even the stunning Lake District. However, guests may wish to stay close to Pasture View so they can relax and unwind—shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles away.

3rd time as Pasture View. Perfect as always. The cottage is clean, warm, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Walks into Barnard Castle through the woods from the door. Plenty of other walks and places to visit nearby. Heather and Tim are fab hosts.
Miles
A fabulous property conveniently located just a couple of miles from Barnard Castle. Pasture View is very spacious and comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen/dining area in particular is perfect. The outdoor seating options are great and if it's too cold the seating area in the porch will soon warm you up! The historic town of Durham is only about 45 minutes away but there is also plenty to do much closer including Barnard Castle with the castle ruins the excellent Bowes Museum. High Force is well worth the effort and Raby Castle is a real gem. I would highly recommend Pasture View.

This was our third time staying at Pasture View and the welcome is still as great as ever from the owner Heather. Her and husband Tim have established a fantastic holiday cottage that people keep coming back to, in one case 12 times!! That shows you how great this property is without mentioning any of the positives. However, as we found out this last week, you only have until the end of May 2026 to experience this wonderful cottage as they will be updating and moving into it themselves after that time. Please take the opportunity to book some time at this 5 star holiday home as it is in a perfect location for all that the Lake District and Cumbrian have to offer to the West, as well as Northumberland and Yorkshire to the East. And as if that isn’t enough, the local area is fantastic as well with plenty to keep you active and entertained during your stay. The property itself is of an incredibly high standard and everything has been thought of so that your stay is as close to trouble free as is possible. Please check out all ther other 5 star reviews from the dozens and dozens of very happy customers like us whose only downside is that we can no longer stay here every year due to the owners moving in themselves - tells you all you need to know. Have a wonderful time Heasther and Tim - you deserve it after giving us all such pleasure in your holiday home.
