Barnard Castle, a market town in County Durham, is located in the pristine scenery of Teesdale. It is situated where a former Roman fort once stood and over a river. The castle's ancient ruins still rise over the river and are worth a visit. The town, lovingly referred to as "Barney" by locals and visitors alike, is home to cobblestone streets, yards, and back lanes that date back to the 12th century. The neighbouring Bowes Museum is a superb place to spend the day exploring this lovely building and taking in the fascinating exhibitions. This charming market town is located in a region that is ideal for hiking and biking. The Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the River Tees, and the stunning waterfalls at High Force are all close by.

Beds comfortable. Only negatives : sofa was too low for us (middle aged couple with stiff knee s!) ; boiler label indicates it hasn't been serviced for several years.

It was cosy, well equipped, had everything we needed. The garden was perfect and safe for our little dog. Property was comfortable, quiet spot but 5 mins from the main high street. Will definitely stay again and recommend. Thank you.

Difficulty of stairs should have been mentioned in description. We had a real performance to guarantee that the toilet seat had been fixed before arrival. Furniture needs updating or replacing, springs coming through king sized mattress and dining chairs. Bedside tables only low boxes. Sofa too wide and low, cushions too soft. Nowhere comfortable to sit. Equipment not working e.g. radio and hoover. Claims to be dog friendly, many notices up prove not so. Items provided such as washing up liquid, loo roll, washing liquid etc.very cheap. No extras such as cling film or foil. Food from previous guests left in cupboard. Only one hand towel per floor and only one tea towel. Overall felt very cheap, which is a shame because it is a beautiful property in a fantastic location. The finishing touches let it down. It felt like the owners were just trying to make as much money as they could out of you. We do appreciate that it is a business, but there was a distinct lack of customer service.
