The Little House is a great choice for those looking for a quiet break in a historical setting. The cottage with beams and exposed brickwork, has been carefully decorated and furnished with lots of lovely period features to celebrate its heritage.
In 1379, John Blakeneye, citizen and fishmonger of London, bought the manor of Hempstead, including the Hole Farmlands, from John de Stodeye, Lord Mayor of London and by the mid-15th century many of the farm buildings were built. Owned by the second Earl of Buckinghamshire in the mid 1700s, it later became part of the Blickling Estate. In 1884, the estate, now run by Lady Constance Lothian, did some major alterations and rebuilding at Hole Farm. These improvements included both the repairing of all the buildings in the original farm yard and the creation of a cattle yard. In fact, the old walls for the cattle yard now provide the shelter for the lovely seasonal, outdoor, heated swimming pool. There is also a hard tennis court available from April to 1st November.
The family who now own the property have planted 60 acres of woods and 8½ miles of hedges and the farm has won many conservation and forestry awards. The setting is just lovely as it nestles within beautiful, open North Norfolk countryside. Just 15 minutes to the stunning coastline, you will find yourself amongst beautiful sandy and shingle beaches, marsh habitats and picturesque quays.
Visit Cromer and walk along the Edwardian promenade or take a stroll along the pier. Head to Blakeney for the Norfolk pursuit of gillie catching. Blickling Estate is just 15 minutes away, but don’t forget to find time to visit Holkham Hall and the Sandringham Estate. History lovers will also enjoy a trip to the Thursford and Muckleburgh Collections museums, a trip on the North Norfolk Railway or a guided tour of Norwich Castle. Just 40 minutes away also lies Wroxham, the gateway to the Norfolk Broads. Here you can join a chartered tour or rent a day launch and watch the world drift by. With cycle routes and walks virtually from the front door, you will be delighted that you chose The Little House to return to for a great night’s sleep, perhaps to dream of days out yet to come. A lovely holiday in a beautiful setting on a delightful private estate. Swimming pool and tennis court available during season.. Covered parking area.Helpful friendly host. Remote, which suited us, but easy access by car to all local towns and villages. Holt a beautiful Georgian town with quality shops. Country walks directly from front door. Very clean ,lashings of hot water, comfy bed ,nice linen and towels. To work efficient hob, saucepans need to be in place and some guidance for the icons on the combi microwave would be good. Nice welcome pack on arrival and home pressed apple juice, delicious! The Piggs hotel/ restaurant at the end of the long lane very nice ,as also the The Owl tearooms in Holt.
