The Owl House is a beautiful brick and flint barn in the heart of rural paradise, surrounded by a herd of doe-eyed, hand-fed breeding deer. Dominated by a magnificent open plan living space and a huge handmade 16ft table with an impressively imposing chandelier made with shed antlers. It also has a double vaulted ceiling with exposed Canadian spruce timbers which will take your breath away.
Beautiful Indian stone flooring will keep you cool in the summer months, under floor heating will warm you at cooler times and the wood burning stove ensures it is cosy for the winter, making this hideaway an all-year-round retreat, perfect for families and groups of friends. Every care has been taken to build an authentic and characterful residence with all the mod-cons to make your stay luxurious and comfortable. On the ground floor, there is a spacious 6' super king-size zip and link bed and en-suite bathroom. ‘The Dorm’ is a stunning chalet-style bedroom with a built-in bunk complex with an en-suite shower room. A bespoke staircase then takes you up into a lovely loft room, with a 6' super king-size zip and link bed and a walk-through to a double ended slipper bath, twin basins and a deluxe shower. Velux windows provide a view over the courtyard with its centre-piece fountain.
And if there wasn’t enough to keep everyone enthralled inside, step outside The Owl House for a dip in the ten-metre indoor, temperature-controlled swimming pool with beautiful modular ceiling with fibre optic lights and a separate changing area, WC and shower. There is also the option of a sauna, a game of tennis on the tarmac court or a game of pétanque. And it’s only a short walk to the local gastro-pub, The Dabbling Duck, in Great Massingham too!
All three of the Hill Farm Massingham barns properties can be booked individually, as a combination of two of the barns or altogether (sleeping thirty one guests). Fallow Folly (sleeps seven guests) and The Owl House are interlinked internally, while access to Red Stag Lodge (sleeps fourteen) is via an external path.
This holiday at a glance
Amazing location within Norfolk, super helpful and friendly hosts, stunning scenery and beautiful accommodation. We will be returning and recommending to anyone who will listen. Though perhaps I shouldn’t shout too loudly so we can keep Hill Farm Barns the best kept secret and selfishly enjoy it ourselves. One small thing worth noting is that the walls are very thin between the barns and you can hear everything your neighbours are up to. That said there is a no noise after 11pm policy which should be adhered to.
Excellent all round place to stay for 20 of us celebrating a big birthday.
