This lovely little hideaway cottage in the historic market town of Aylsham exudes character and charm. Dating back to the 17th century and sleeping three guests, it offers a perfect retreat for two or a couple with one child. Independent shops, pubs and restaurants are within a mile, and you can stock up on local produce at Aylsham’s bustling twice-weekly market. Golden beaches, the tranquil Norfolk Broads and glorious National Trust gardens are all within 10 miles, and there’s a wealth of attractions to explore in the cathedral city of Norwich (12 miles).
The pretty, ground-floor kitchen/diner of your holiday home has a compact cooking area, a round dining table for three, and a wall cupboard filled with vintage crockery. Also on this floor, there is a WC and cottage-style stairs to the first-floor lounge. This cosy room has original ceiling beams, comfortable seating and a wood burner-effect electric fire. There’s a shower room and a wonderfully romantic double bedroom with a blue-painted four-poster bed. At the top of the stairs, discover a single, floral-themed bedroom beneath a vaulted ceiling. Outside is a delightful, enclosed patio garden with climbing plants and outdoor furniture, where you can enjoy a quiet moment.
After exploring Aylsham’s cobbled streets, with its fine buildings and quaint alleyways, hop on board the Bure Valley Railway. The steam train travels through the lovely valley of the River Bure for a 45-minute trip to Wroxham, known as the capital of the Broads, where you can take a peaceful boat trip. Treat yourself to ice cream or fish and chips in Cromer (10 miles), a traditional bucket-and-spade seaside resort, and enjoy beautiful gardens at two splendid National Trust stately homes: Blickling Hall (1.5 miles) and Felbrigg Hall (9 miles).
