The surrounding rural countryside around Thompson provides endless opportunities for cycling and walking, and with Thetford Forest only 20 miles away, you can head out with a picnic and follow the well-marked footpaths and cycle trails. Thompson Common, is famous for its 'pingos', a series of around 400 post-glacial depressions, making it one of the most important sites in the county for dragonflies and damselflies, and less than a mile from The Goat Shed. In fact, The Pingo Trail, an extraordinary and fascinating walk, can be joined from the bottom of the garden! Norfolk's mediaeval main city, Norwich, is only a forty minute drive away, whilst the outstanding Heritage Coast in Suffolk can be reached in just over an hour.
