Falconer’s Lodge is a truly distinctive, Grade II listed property dating back to around 1814. Often described as a fairy-tale castle, it was originally built for the Falconers’ Club and later became part of the historic Didlington Estate, once visited by King George VI and members of the Royal Family. Constructed from knapped flint and gault brick, the lodge is crowned with a striking Arabian-Gothic style tower that gives it an unmistakable character.
Carefully restored and thoughtfully transformed into a luxurious holiday home, Falconer’s Lodge blends historic charm with modern comfort. Inside, the interiors are calm and refined, with high-quality furnishings, soft tones, and beautiful views from every window across the surrounding gardens and woodland. The layout includes three characterful bedrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, and inviting living spaces designed for relaxed stays. Outside, the private enclosed gardens provide a peaceful setting to unwind, surrounded by mature trees and open countryside.
The lodge sits within a captivating landscape on the High Ash estate, bordered by the vast beauty of Thetford Forest. With over 47,000 acres of woodland, heathland, and open parkland on the doorstep, the area offers a rare sense of space, tranquillity, and connection to nature. Guests can step directly from the garden onto miles of scenic walking and cycling routes, woodland trails, and quiet tracks. Wildlife is a regular presence, with deer, owls, and woodland birds frequently seen.
The forest is also home to High Lodge, a popular recreational centre offering cycling and walking trails, adventure play areas, and the Go Ape treetop experience. Beyond the forest, the wider region is rich in heritage, culture, and dining. Norwich, with its Norman castle, cathedral, and vibrant food scene, is easily reached, as are King’s Lynn and Bury St Edmunds. Ely Cathedral, Cambridge, and a range of independent shops and eateries make rewarding day trips.
The North Norfolk coast lies less than an hour away, offering wide beaches, unspoilt marshes, busy quays, and excellent seafood. Nature lovers will also enjoy nearby bird reserves at Cley Marshes and Titchwell, wetlands at Welney, and year-round attractions such as Oxburgh Hall, Gooderstone Water Gardens, and Grimes Graves.
