Guests say

Gavel Cottage in Windermere is generally praised for its peaceful location, comfortable amenities, and beautiful garden. Guests appreciate the property as a quiet retreat and a convenient base for exploring the Lake District. While some guests have raised concerns about cleanliness and maintenance, the majority have enjoyed their stay, highlighting the cosy atmosphere and the thoughtful touches such as the laid fire and provided slippers.

Reviews on cleanliness are mixed, with several guests finding the cottage clean and tidy, while others have reported issues with dirty cutlery, sticky surfaces, and general untidiness. The positive comments suggest good standards, but the negative feedback indicates room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions and amenities. It is described as a quiet gateway, yet close to Bowness and Windermere, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.

Most guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy furnishings, an open fire, and a peaceful atmosphere. Some concerns about bed sizes and heating inconsistencies are noted, but overall, the comfort level is regarded as high.

Facilities are generally well-received, with guests appreciating the well-equipped kitchen and garden. However, there are comments about broken items, the need for maintenance, and the lack of access to previously included spa facilities, which affects the score.

While many reviews mention thoughtful touches like slippers, a laid fire, and welcome treats, there is no consistent mention of gifts to accurately assess this category. Therefore, the score is set to null, and guests should note that such extras, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

About 1.5 miles away from centre, easily walkable but I would recommend taking a torch in the later months as there is not much street lighting. Handy having a dedicated parking spot. This cottage has all you need, well equipped kitchen, good bathroom and a decent size. There is a very large garden with a summerhouse, pity the weather was miserable so we didn't get the to use it. 1The only thing I felt let it down to some degree was that one of the sofas was well past it's best. Cushioning was very saggy making it not particularly comfortable and quite low as a result. Found it difficult to get up from. Would certainly book this again if we return to the area any time

The garden was absolutely stunning and so well kept. Kitchen had everything you could possibly need, and loved the throws in the lounge! Fire was all ready to light, which was great! Would definitely book again!
