About this property

Cuddle up together in countryside contentment, Lake District style! Close to the honeypot bustle of Bowness and the popular shores of Lake Windermere, yet idyllically situated in a quiet and majestic country hall, this lovely little apartment is waiting to hug a pair of Lakelovers with warmth and well-being, and all the happiness the concept of 'hygge' represents!

The Danish term 'hygge', pronounced 'hue-gah', has no direct English translation, but perhaps you can find that meaning expressed in this luxurious first-floor love nest for two? Carefully designed as an intimate space in which to completely unwind and put all thoughts of the outside world aside, Hygge at No. 8 is lodged on the first-floor of the superb Arts and Crafts designed Applethwaite Hall. This fabulous country residence dates from 1901, and is full of original features, and benefits from a sympathetic 2017 upgrade, making for a characterful yet thoroughly contemporary living experience for the select group of just 12 apartments.

Yours is an effortlessly elegant living space, where simplicity and clean lines marry beautifully with deeply ingrained comfort. From the decadent Villeroy and Bosch bathroom to the superbly realised open-plan living-area and the gorgeously romantic bedroom, quality and taste are clearly the watchwords here.

Can views induce 'hygge'? We certainly get the feeling they do when we look through the stunning stone-mullioned windows here toward the distant Langdale mountains. Make yourselves a mug of hot-chocolate, get into your most comfortable sweaters, and just sit surveying the beauty of this majestic slice of Lakeland scenery!

The dignified surroundings of Applethwaite Hall wrap you up in a cocoon of perfect tranquility, and its a real pleasure to wander the well groomed grounds. Take a walk, too, onto the adjacent National Trust farmland, or get out and about on the many footpaths that criss-cross the land locally. Orrest Head provides an easily accessible peak at nearby Windermere village, while the Central Fells of Lakeland rise just to your north. Abundant water-based fun is to be had at Bowness Bay, and you mustn't miss a blissful cruise on the famous lake steamers. And then return home to settle down in your perfect little nest for two!

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.

30pm on Saturday 11th Jan to find that a) The Lounge area was very cold as was the radiator (showing 14.0 degrees) and b) there was No hot water. 2) We managed to increase the room temperature by pressing the + button but this was temporary as next day the temp could not be increased and the area remained very cold. The Hot water was obtained by using the Boost setting, as instructed in info book, until we realised that it had been set to 'Off' when we arrived. We re-set the timer correctly. 3) My wife reported the lack of warmth from the radiator to Sykes at Chester on Sunday morning 12th Jan but we could not reset and nothing happened that day and so we phoned again on Monday morning. A Maintenance Team (with owners consent) came early pm but could not re-set radiator temps or timings as required. Another call to Gabrielle in Property Maintenance next morning brought another visit from Maintenance (we were out) and this time the radiators worked ok.(Good for the following weeks guests no doubt). 4) Surely, this amount of hassle for paying guests should not impact on a holiday as this. So much time spent on phone calls, messages, organisation etc. 5) Thanks to Gabrielle from Sykes Property Services Team for persisting in sorting out the problem but doubts about cost cutting persist ( one toilet roll now - for instance in a Gold Standard Property).
