My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Stainton is an attractive village and a good location to visit and enjoy places like Ullswater, Derwent Water, Pooley Bridge and Keswick. It is within easy reach of Penrith for shopping trips. Elizabeth is a wonderful host and is always on hand to help you enjoy your visit. The cottage is comfortable, well equipped, clean and is full of interesting paintings, tapestries and ornaments. The summer-house in the garden is an added bonus where you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine at the end of a day’s hike or visit to the many places of interest in the eastern lakes / Cumbria. It is not surprising that many visitors to The Cottage return for these reasons.

We had a wonderful time staying in The Mains cottage. It is a beautiful cottage-well equipped, spotlessly clean, with lots of character and natural light. We greatly enjoyed our time relaxing in the beautifully kept garden at the front of the cottage and enjoying a coffee in the summer house too. Stainton is a wonderful village with a local pub and a hotel where you can also get food and drinks just a stone's throw away from the cottage. You are so well situated to visit the Lakes and we got out and about a number of times each day as everywhere was so accessible. We enjoyed visiting Penrith for supplies, going to Pooley Bridge for walks, Aira Falls waterfall, Keswick and parking at Dalemain to walk into Dacre. Thank you again, Elizabeth. We are looking forward to coming back again!
