Guests say

Spring Grove is a charming and peaceful cottage set in a beautiful location with stunning views of Ullswater. Guests consistently praise its tranquil setting, spacious living areas, and easy access to lakeside walks and local attractions. The cottage is well-equipped and spotlessly clean, making it a comfortable base for exploring the Lake District. While some guests noted minor issues with kitchen equipment, maintenance, and the lack of a welcome pack, the overall experience is highly positive, with many hoping to return.

Most guests found the cottage spotlessly clean and well-presented, especially the living areas and bedrooms. A few mentioned minor issues with kitchen cleanliness and the need to wash some utensils before use, but these were exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is frequently described as beautiful, peaceful, and ideal for exploring Ullswater and the Lake District. Guests appreciated the quiet setting, lake views, and proximity to walks, though a few noted it is a little remote and not easily accessible by public transport.

Guests found the cottage warm, cosy, and comfortable, with spacious living areas and good beds. Some mentioned the master bed was quite firm, but overall comfort levels were high and the property accommodated groups well.

The cottage is generally well-equipped with modern appliances and amenities. Some guests experienced issues with the shower, blunt kitchen knives, and the inability to use the log burner. WiFi was noted as slow or unreliable. Maintenance was responsive to problems, but a few issues remained unresolved during some stays.

Several guests noted the absence of a welcome pack or basic provisions such as tea, coffee, or sufficient toilet paper. While some leftover items from previous guests were present, gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed at this property.

    Loved the peace and quiet

We had a great time at the cottage, accommodated 3 adults comfortably. Cottage was spotless, and outside breakfast didn't really use the kitchen area, which was adequately stocked with cooking, crockery etc. We brought our own toilet paper based on other comments. Grounds were well cared for, everything for us worked out fine.

Things we loved: Peaceful and tranquil. Large living area. Everything was really clean and tidy. Kitchen area was small but was adequate for our needs; bed was super comfy (we like firm mattresses). A really good base to explore the area. Lake view through the trees. Great new appliances (dishwasher, fridge-freezer). An abundance of wildlife, a Pipistrel bat roost opposite, all sorts of birds including a Tawny Owl. Things we disliked: I do echo what other people have said about the pitting on the cutlery (due to the dishwasher) & very blunt knives. Shower - although usable, it was WAY too hot, to the point it nearly burnt you - and that’s on the coldest setting! HOWEVER, this was fixed when we were there, and then no problems. If it’s warm, take your own fan(s). WiFi is almost non existent - improvements are imminent. Connectivity and communication is difficult - which may be a blessing to some people who want to get away from everything! Top tip: Do a grocery shop in Penrith on the way to the cottage. Overall though, a really good stay.
