Spring Grove is ideally located at Watermillock, a stone’s throw from Ullswater’s shoreline in the Northern Lake District, privately accessed by its own drive and surrounded by 50 acres of woodland which covers a fell that overlooks Lake Ullswater. With fantastic walks, direct from Spring Grove, allowing you to leave your car behind or stay home to enjoy the garden space where wildlife is often seen, including roe deer, badger, fox, squirrels, buzzards, ravens and regular nesting ducks. Adjoining the discreet owners’ properties, you also have access to its own lake shore frontage just across the road, offering private fishing and the possibility of launching small craft such as a windsurfer, canoe or rubber dinghy. Windsurfing, rowing and motorboat hire, sailing, golf, pony trekking and steamer cruises are all available locally. The main shopping areas are in Penrith, 7 miles, and Pooley Bridge for local pubs and cafes is just 1½ miles away and with a restaurant within walking distance.

Lovely warm and cosy cottage set back from the road with fabulous views of the lake. Walks from the property plus to a lovely pub. Generally well equipped and clean. We were disappointed to discover we couldnt use the log burner, its pictured in the cottage details and was one of the reasons for booking this cottage. We even brought logs with us in readiness. A note in the description would have been useful. While some parts of the kitchen were well equipped with quality items, some were lacking and poor quality. Pasta style bowls and a casserole type dish would help. The cutlery was worn and not great quality. The kitchen knives were very blunt which made food prep difficult. We had to wash the cutlery, glasses and chopping boards before use as they had dried food and mould stains on them. The rest of the cottage was very clean. There was no welcome pack. A few bits were left over from other guests like some coffee. No salt and pepper. There was washing up liquid and soap which is helpful , but only 1 and a half toilet rolls were inadequate for a week. We had a problem with our rubbish. The two metal bins were full on arrival and not emptied during our stay. We ended up having to take a lot home with us as we didnt want to just leave it out in the open by the road. With a 5 hour journey ahead of us we didnt want to be finding refuse centres before we could start our journey. In spite of the above comments, this is a delightful cottage in a peaceful area. I would recommend it, the above is just for information as to our experience.

Gorgeous little cottage with stunning views. Things we loved, acces to lake, pooley bridge close by, amenities - the dish washer, washing machine, hoover and cleaning products provided made the stay easier and it was spotlesly clean things we didnt love, master bed is quite hard, communication from cottages was poor. Loved it though and will hopefully be back.
