Perched on the waymarked pathway that leads up Hellvelyn, just 0.5 miles from the lakeside village of Glenridding, you really are staying in the thick of it all when calling this country cottage your own. Be sure to pack your walking boots, not just for the endless hikes found all around you, but also for the hearty uphill trek that leads from the village pubs and up to your front door. The property itself accommodates four guests and as many dogs, an excellent abode for pet-loving families.

There’s a real sense of welcoming in this end-terrace cottage, complete with its wood burner and antique-style furnishings creating cosiness and character. Enter straight into the lounge with comfy sofas positioned around the fire and a dining set for sociable mealtimes. Said dinners are to be prepared in the kitchen next door, which is separated by a stable door and perfect for leaving pets to dry off after a walk. There’s also access to the garden from here, a sunny, enclosed space with furniture for outdoor dining. Move through the property and onto the first floor to find two bedrooms alongside a final family bathroom.

Whilst a walk-up Hellvelyn is a must, there is a world of other pastimes available close by to fill the rest of your days. The fantastic Ullswater is less than 1 mile away, offering boat cruises, kayaking and sailing on its shores. Explore The Ullswater Way, a 20-mile circular route around the lake, making sure to stop off at the Aira Force Waterfall (4 miles) to take in this splendid sight. On the opposite side of the water, visit the extravagant Lowther Castle and Gardens one enjoyable afternoon (14 miles).
