Please note: Couples and family bookings only. There are 2 steps in the garden.. Castlegate is a modern mid-terraced house completely refurbished in 2020. From the large open plan living/dining room, to the modern kitchen, three comfortable bedrooms and modern bathroom upstairs, this really is a lovely home from which to enjoy your holiday. Set on the fringes of the market town of Penrith, you could not be better placed to enjoy the Lake District at its best with every kind of outdoor activity on hand, the stunning Eden Valley, and even over the border into Scotland. Ullswater is a mere 10 minute drive away where you can enjoy sailing, canoeing or just take a leisurely launch trip taking in the magnificent scenery. Right in the heart of the Lake District, a 20 minute drive will take you to the bustling market town of Keswick nestled between Skiddaw and beautiful Derwentwater. Stroll through the town with its many little shops, cafés and restaurants or take a gentle walk by the shores of Derwentwater. Of course walking in the fells is a major draw to Keswick. For a more relaxed day drive into the stunning Eden Valley with its lush green countryside and traditional towns and villages, and a must is a trip on the Settle to Carlisle railway line which runs through the Eden Valley. Best of all return to Eden Cottage, park the car and just cross the road to the local pub serving fabulous food.

Overall great location, value, set up. A couple things for notes:Broken floorboard in the master bedroom at the bottom of the steps needs repair.The shower only shower doesn't drain quickly, likely a partially clogged pipe.The internet didn't work, the network wasn't up and running.Other than these minor issues extremely comfortable stay. Loved the kitchen set up and everything was clean.

Generally lovely stay in a great location for the station and access to the Lake District. Perfect if you want a bit of nightlife, but also to explore/hike in the Lake District.I would stay here again although I think that the place could be cleaner - unfortunately there was mouldy coffee grinds in the coffee maker, dirty dishes and general dust with old decorating masking tape in places.

House was lovely and in a good location. Rooms were all good sizes. Plenty of shops, restaurants and bars in the area. Really handy to the train station. Would have scored 5 stars however minor issues - dirty dishes in drawers & cupboards + showers not the warmest. This wouldn't put me off booking to stay again though.
