Situated in the rural village of Dacre, just five miles west of Penrith and a short drive or a delightful walk from the shores of Ullswater & Pooley Bridge, this charming 18th century cottage is the perfect setting for peace and quiet in the stunning Lake District.
Boxtree is a traditional farmer’s cottage which has been beautifully renovated to provide high quality accommodation while retaining its original charm and period character. With two ensuite bedrooms, a cosy lounge with log burning stove, family dining room, cottage kitchen and sun room all complemented by a pretty cottage garden and patio, Boxtree is a real treat and the perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Lake District.
Dacre is a delightful Cumbrian village which is steeped in history and houses a 14th century castle, with footpath leading to Dalemain House and historic gardens and a church which is home to the mysterious Dacre bears. The village has an 18th century pub, The Horse & Farrier where you can enjoy a pint and an excellent meal after a day out exploring.

The cottage is furnished to a high standard throughout. The cosy sitting room with feature fireplace, log burning stove and exposed beams is a welcome treat on a winter evening.
The Shaker style kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need and includes an electric hob and oven, dishwasher and washing machine. Dinner can be served in the adjoining dining room with antique farmhouse dining table making it the ideal spot for dinner with friends or a leisurely family breakfast. To the rear of the cottage the sun room overlooks the pretty cottage garden and is a lovely spot to relax with a good book or the weekend papers. A useful cloak room and drying room provide plenty of space for all your outdoor gear and there is the extra convenience of a downstairs WC.
Upstairs the master bedroom features a vaulted beam ceiling, wrought iron bed and traditional antique furniture and is complemented by a spacious ensuite bathroom with feature roll top bath. The equally charming second bedroom offers a super-king bed (that can be offered as a twin - please specify when booking) and ensuite shower room.
To the rear of the cottage there is a pretty south west facing cottage garden which is entirely enclosed, with patio area and garden furniture and to the side of the cottage there is private parking for two cars. The lockable stone outhouse offers secure storage for mountain bikes and outdoor equipment.
Just a short distance away, you’ll find a local shop within easy reach, while the nearby area offers plenty to explore. Head to Pooley Bridge to enjoy lakeside walks and independent eateries, or visit Glenridding for access to Ullswater and surrounding walking routes. Penrith is also within easy reach, offering historic sites such as Penrith Castle and a selection of shops and cafés. Attractions in the area include Ullswater Lake itself for boat trips and scenic strolls, Aira Force waterfall for woodland walks, and the wider Lake District National Park for hiking, cycling, and outdoor pursuits. Boxtree near Ullswater provides a well-located base for discovering the landscapes, walking routes, and villages of Cumbria.
Dacre is a small, quiet village that sits within the Lake District National Park, set amongst rolling Cumbrian countryside. The village offers a pub serving food, with shops available 5 miles away in Penrith. St Andrew’s, the parish church in Dacre, has occupied the site for over 1,000 years and has an ancient cross, which is believed to be pre-Viking. The village also has a castle, which has recently been restored and is now a private residence. Dalemain, an historic house and gardens, is also close by and every year hosts the World’s Original Marmalade Awards. With Ullswater also on the doorstep, and magnificent scenery to be enjoyed down towards Glenridding and Patterdale, which travels southwards towards Ambleside over the Kirkstone Pass, Dacre makes a wonderful base for making the most of this spectacular region.

Not far from the motorway/Penrith so easy access, yet feels incredibly rural. Plenty of walking both locally and further afield and the local pub (Horse and Farrier) would be a find wherever you lived and is amazing to have on your doorstep. I canât imagine anyone being disappointed with this property.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and really well placed for visiting the whole of the Lakes, particularly beautiful Ullswater and Derwent Water. The kitchen is very well equipped and we had everything we needed. There is a lovely pub doing excellent meals just a couple of minutes walk away. We would definitely return.

Tastefully furnished to complement the age of the cottage and very well equipped. The ownerâs welcome pack of mince pies, chocolate treats and doggie treats was a thoughtful gesture. Also covered most domestic provisionsâ¦but advise taking extra toilet and kitchen rolls, as well as washing powder if you intend to use the machine. Tea, coffee, sugar advised as well, although if youâre lucky previous users may have left some. Its situated in a beautiful village, with its own local pub, a church and a castle! Highly recommend lunch at the local pub. Nice walking routes.
