Dating back to 1880, this former farm worker’s cottage is situated in one of the most beautiful Lake District valleys, with Lake Ullswater just a mile away for lake cruises and boat hire. The property has been lovingly restored with 21st century comforts in mind, providing a charming holiday home for those eager to break away from their normal routines and discover the delights of the Lake District. The cottage stands in its own enclosed garden bounded beyond the wall on one side by the tumbling waters of Deepdale Beck and with views to the hills around. The split-level interior has its entrance into the kitchen/diner, equipped with all the necessary appliances for a short break, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a dishwasher so you won’t have to lift a finger when washing up!
Several steps up lead into the cosy, beamed sitting room with pitched ceiling and feature stone wall, housing an alluring woodburning stove which is sure to be used in the winter months. When it comes to catching some sleep, there are two bedrooms to choose from, including a double with an en-suite shower room and a twin on the lower floor, which are both attractively furnished with carefully chosen colours and fabrics. Step outside and get some fresh air in the enclosed garden, providing a tranquil spot to relax on the seating whilst taking in the fine views of the Hartsop Fells.
From the door there are numerous rambles to be explored, particularly along the high fells of Helvellyn, St. Sunday Crag and the High Street Ridge, or for easier routes then you can walk around the shores of Ullswater and stop off for lunch in the quaint villages of Howtown and Watermillock. Take yourself deeper into the Lakelands and visit the ever-popular towns of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere, each boasting plenty of family attractions to keep you busy. Beckside Studio promises a Lake District escape that will inspire memories for all.
Ullswater is generally considered to encompass three major villages. This includes Glenridding at the south and Pooley Bridge at the north. The second largest lake, at approximately 7.5 miles wide, Ullswater is often regarded as the most beautiful lake in the district. There is dramatic mountain scenery to the south, as well as the gentle hills of the north. This region is popular among walkers, climbers and cyclists of all levels of ability. There are various water sports for all abilities too and lots of family activities. Along with historical sites of interest, Ullswater has a strong nautical history, having been a popular sailing destination for centuries. There are marinas placed all around the lake. Plus a wide range of superb eateries and shops, sure to delight!
Also, on the west side of the lake is the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall. It is one of the National Park’s most popular natural tourist attractions. Glenridding is a particularly popular tourist attraction with mountain walkers. They visit the village to scale England’s third highest peak, Helvellyn.

Superb cottage in a wonderful location with walks straight from the door. Very clean and well equipped with everything you might need for a self-catering holiday. The views from the windows are lovely and there is even a little reading area in the lounge with a view across the river to the fells beyond. Although regular visitors to the Lake District over many years this is the first time we have stayed in Ullswater, and we couldnât have chosen a better place than Beckside Studio. We hope to return in the near future.

We missed that no towels are provided for guests. Our fault of course, but in our experience itâs unusual and we could have done without the drive to Penrith to purchase towels. The bedding is getting a little thin and faded, the chair cover in the living room is crumpled and untidy and the soft furnishings and linens throughout are about ready to be replaced to improve the overall comfort and presentation. There was also a general feeling of clutter such as random items stacked in the corner of the living room surrounded by cobwebs which was not particularly inviting. All that said, we loved the location, had some really great walks, saw red squirrels for the first time and it always brought a smile to our faces to return to such a beautiful cottage.
