Thrang View is a well-loved cottage praised for its ideal location, comfortable furnishings, and suitability for walkers and their dogs. The property boasts a beautiful garden with views, and guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and cosy atmosphere. While some maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with most guests finding it fresh and welcoming. However, there are some reports of cobwebs, dust, and a smell of sewage in one of the toilets, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is highly praised for its stunning views, proximity to local amenities, and access to walks and climbs. It is considered central yet quiet, contributing to an excellent score.
Guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy beds and a warm atmosphere. Some minor issues with heating and a few dated furnishings are mentioned, but overall, the comfort level is high.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-stocked kitchen and robust wifi. However, maintenance issues such as non-working fans, lighting problems, and a need for updates in some areas affect the score.
There is insufficient information regarding any thoughtful gestures such as gifts, so a score cannot be provided. No reviews mention gifts, hence the score is set to null.
A beautiful bungalow built of local slate, Thrang View is a superb holiday home for 6 in the sought-after Great Langdale valley. Blessed with outstanding views and unstinting comfort, this is a place to retreat to with your favourites and fully unwind. A fell-walkers fantasy, and a delightful family escape, Thrang View is one of our firm Lakelovers favourites.
Your luxurious home-from-home is laid out with every contemporary comfort, and thoughtfully designed to give your party a really restful break. The sumptuous sofas sprawl about an open fire, with dining space nearby for those leisurely evening meals or pre-hike breakfasts together. But its when you get outside into the stunning garden surrounded by panoramic views or onto the fells themselves that your choice of retreat really comes into its own.
Langdale ranks among the very finest valleys in Lakeland for scenery and tranquility. The iconic Langdale Pikes, a gloriously individual group of spiky summits, loom superbly at the head of Great Langdale and near its mouth you'll find the higgledy-piggledly former slate-mining village of Chapel Stile and with it Thrang View. The picture windows of this superb property take in the rugged fell-tops and the patchwork of dry-stone walled fields that characterise this idyllic place.
A Langdale breakaway has to be all about the hills, and the walking, climbing and mountain-biking here is seriously as good as it gets. Besides the Pikes themselves, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, and even Scafell Pike, are accessible from the valley, and Lingmoor is a slightly lower but exceptionally rewarding summit, sitting so prettily between Great and Little Langdale.
Often referred to as Great Langdale, to distinguish it from nearby Little Langdale, Langdale's name comes from the Old Norse for 'long valley'. Langdale is a u-shaped valley formed by glaciers. It encompasses the two villages of Chapel Stile and Elterwater, as well as the hamlet of High Close. Set in the centre of the Lake District, Langdale is probably best known for its mountains, from the Langdale Pikes – a group of mountains on the northern side of the village – to England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Rock climbers will also love Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll. There Not surprisingly Langdale is also famous for it’s spectacular views, including Dungeon Ghyll Force Waterfall, Harrison Stickle and Pike of Stickle. it is an extremely popular holiday destination and loved by hikers, climbers, fell runners and lovers of the outdoors in general.

The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and equipment. The bungalow is roomy and the bedrooms are large. The open fire so cosy and homely. However, the smell of sewerage in the single toilet was overpowering on some days, so we just kept the door closed to reduce this. The property really needs some maintenance. You canât see the birds at the feeder due to the fact the double glazing is blown in the windows and this has been mentioned in numerous feedbacks over a few years, yet nothing has been done. The garden bushes are very overgrown blocking views up the valley. Having a block of wood jamming a window closed is not great and can be fixed easily so not sure why this has not been done. The mattress in the 2nd bedroom has springs coming through it, luckily we had another bedroom to choose from as there was just 2 of us, but the bases themselves look like they are from the time the house was built in the 1990âs and well past their best. Not sure when the sofas and carpets were last cleaned but they need done. The patio needs a power wash, itâs covered in black mould and I went my length on it, luckily not breaking anything. The radiators are very rusty and could do with a clean. Mouldy bathroom blinds. You have to store your recycling and take to a dedicated recycling point as the owners donât use commercial waste that sorts this, in this day and age I find this incredible, so we brought our rubbish home with us to recycle. The garden is not fully secure and there are sheep the other side of the slate wallI so if you have a dog that is determined to get out they will, luckily our lab canât be bothered any more. I was really disappointed, as my expectations were high from the photos and we had seen the cottage from a previous chapel stile stay. We did not complain as I wanted to get on with our holiday that we had waited months for and did not want anything to mar this. The January price we paid was just about acceptable all things considered but there is no way, without some maintenance I would pay May onwards prices for this property. It made me sad that a lovely house was being neglected. I can not justify staying here again, but I wish I could.
