The Spinney is a well-located and spacious property in Ambleside, offering beautiful views and a quiet setting. Guests appreciate its proximity to the town centre and local walks, as well as the well-equipped kitchen and ample living space. While some guests mention dated decor and the need for updates, particularly in the bathrooms and kitchen, the property's cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful touches like games and activities are frequently commended.
Most guests found The Spinney to be clean and well-maintained, with only one mention of cleanliness issues upon arrival, which were promptly addressed. The property is generally praised for its tidiness, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.
The property's location is highly praised for its convenience to Ambleside's town centre and local walks, despite the steep approach. The quiet setting and lovely views add to the appeal, making it a desirable base for exploring the area.
Guests find The Spinney comfortable, with spacious rooms and multiple bathrooms. However, some guests noted issues with mattresses and a need for more modern comforts. The presence of games and activities is a positive aspect that enhances the overall comfort.
The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, but there are several calls for updates, especially in the bathrooms and kitchen appliances. Maintenance issues like flickering lights and extractor fans are noted, though the property offers good recycling facilities.
While guests appreciate the well-stocked kitchen and the provision of games and activities, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would fall under the category of thoughtfulness. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.
Set in 1.5 acres of tranquil woodland close to Stockghyll waterfalls, The Spinney is a spacious and stylish property that is part of the “Falls” development - a converted old bobbin mill just a short distance from the vibrant town of Ambleside. The property boasts a unique layout including a lounge that opens out onto a waterfall balcony. A delightful cottage with views of Nab Scar and Fairfield that are simply amazing.
The property has a spacious lounge with vaulted ceiling galleried landing, Lakeland fireplace and deep-cushioned furnishings. There’s also an oak-fitted kitchen, a separate dining room and it sleeps up to eight guests in two king sized bedrooms and two twins - the master bedroom enjoys glass doors that open onto a balcony providing a romantic escape. Other features include ensuite bathrooms and private parking. Please note that an external contractor will require access to the property to carry out fire alarm checks every Monday to comply with safety regulations.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

There was plenty of space and was really well-equipped with everything we needed. As added extras, the balconies were great opportunities to enjoy some peace and quiet! We holiday every year as a family in the Lakes, normally in Ambleside and The Spinney was voted the best house we have had in recent years. Just a note - the lights under the cabinets in the kitchen didnât work properly. I meant to leave a note to let you know. Fine in the summer, but might be useful for the autumn and darker days.

Kitchen has everything you may need to prepare meals but we ate out 4 times in the evening. The mattress in the en-suite room could be more comfy if was replaced with a firmer n non roll off type? A non slip mat for the bath tub could be helpful as a rail bar to assist oap in n out of the bath safely?? The carbon monoxide alarm broke one night at 1am but duly replaced next day. Extractor fan in en-suite did not work but reported. Icing on the cake would be if you could divide a welcome pack of T n a carton of milk for us to use on arrival after a long journey? Some of us travelled from Berkshire. We could not get the fire in the front room to work one night when we felt chilly.. we had exceptional sunny n warm weather in the whole week if stay. In September or more inclement weather we would need the fire?? But we loved our stay n hope to return. Btw., some of the natives who live in the big house called Beech retreat were very rude n threatened to clamp our second car â¦we parked it in the space which appeared as roadside but they claimed as their private?? He followed me to theSpinney to harangue me!! It was difficult to arrive at the Spinney in one car when there was 7 of us??
