About this property

Shelley is a romantic second-floor hotel room nestled in the heart of the village of Grasmere, Cumbria. Situated within the Lake District National Park, this inviting retreat is ideal for couples or friends, featuring a super-king-size zip/link bed, a tranquil garden view, and close proximity to both a lake and a river. Park the car and feel the satisfying crunch of gravel underfoot as you approach this characterful hotel, dating back to 1871. From the outside, the stone exterior exudes charm, with neatly arranged potted plants, wall-mounted lanterns, and graceful deer statues adding to the welcoming atmosphere. As you ascend the staircase to the second floor, take in the walls adorned with carefully curated local artwork, a theme that continues throughout the space.

Step into Shelley, where the sumptuous super-king-size bed invites you to unwind after a day of exploring the fells and lakes. For those travelling with a friend or family member, the bed can be conveniently split into twins, offering flexible sleeping arrangements. Settle into the armchairs, perfectly positioned to admire the lush garden views, and make use of the coffee maker or kettle for a comforting drink. To refresh, step into the stylish bathroom, where you can enjoy a long soak in the bath or a brisk shower. A heated towel rail ensures your towels and clothes are warm and ready.

Later, sink into bed and switch on the Smart TV to catch up on your favourite shows as you drift off to sleep. This welcoming abode also features an on-site restaurant, perfect for breakfast or dinner, with a spacious garden area for alfresco dining and soaking up the countryside air. There’s also a well-stocked bar, ideal for a sociable evening in, complete with a TV for entertainment. From this central base, the wonders of the Lake District are right on your doorstep. After a day of adventure, return to Shelley and recharge in comfort and style. Note: This property can be booked with refs.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
