This immaculately-presented apartment, Low Dow Crag, is situated on the ground-floor of a semi-detached property in an outstanding location, close to Coniston in Cumbria. Boasting breath-taking views of the fells and open countryside, including that of the Old Man of Coniston, this delightful property is an ideal base for a couple or solo traveller wishing to visit and explore all that this area has to offer. Inside this lovely apartment there’s a spacious open-plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting area with a gas coal-effect stove, as well as French windows that open out to the patio, from where you will be able to admire glorious views and birdlife, including woodpeckers.
The patio is a perfect spot for a morning coffee with a newspaper or local map as you decide on the day’s activities, or for unwinding with a glass of wine in the evening, after which a place to rest can be had in the double bedroom. Coniston has a number of pubs, cafes and shops, as well as its own brewery producing Bluebird Bitter, which is named after the boat that broke the water speed record by Donald Campbell in 1950. You may wish to decide to take a water cruise on one of the steamers, relax and enjoy the stunning scenery of the fells, or visit Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin, which is on the other side of Coniston Water.
Local hiking and walking are in abundance from the Old Man of Coniston to the surrounding fells of Dow Crag and Yewdale, plus the famous beauty spot of Tarn Hows is close by. A short drive away from the apartment is Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere making Low Dow Crag the ideal touring base for exploring the Lake District National Park and beyond.
The pretty village of Coniston is situated at the head of Coniston Water, surrounded by beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park. A walk through the village will find a delightful selection of independent shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants where you can grab a delicious pub lunch and a brewery for sampling the local ales. Ideally located Coniston has easy access to superb walking and mountain biking trails as well as climbing for those who are feeling adventurous!

Firstly, without a car, it's quite a way out in terms of the walking distance, specially in bad weather. Secondly, the door lock is extremely stiff, and needs immediate attention, thirdly, the noise issues due the thinness off the walls, your able to hear everything from the apartment above, can be disruptive to sleep. Fourthly, the tap in the kitchen needs securing and tightening up, and lastly, the wood burner in the living room as no specific manual/instruction leaflet for the guest to know how to use this, which the guest/s can experience the coldness of the apartment in the evenings. Furthermore, the heating was timed to come on between 10.00 am until 6.00 pm in the evening, with the rest of the evening having no direct heating, which was extremely cold and chilly. In short, the rent of the apartment cannot be justified positively, it was too expensive, if you take into account the issues mentioned above. The positives however are the beautiful views from the apartment location, the calmness and quietness of the location, and the extremely comfortable bed, very lush and warm.

Well stocked and comfortable. I would definitely recommend it for a holiday. The door was hard to open with the key sometimes. Could do with a sign saying low Dow Cottage at the front. The postman found it hard to find.
