Ambleside is also home to the Ambleside Roman Fort, a well-preserved Roman fort that offers a fascinating insight into the area's history. Or visit Kendal, a fabulous market town home to several museums, including the Kendal Museum, the Quaker Tapestry Museum, and the Lakeland Museum. Grizedale Forest Park is easily accessible by car and is home to a variety of activities, including numerous excellent hikes, mountain biking, and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also features a number of National Trust properties and a variety of water sports for those who prefer an adrenaline-packed vacation.
