About this property

Otters Reach is a traditional white washed Lakeland cottage with rustic beams and open fire. This is the ideal location for those looking for peace and tranquility, a true place to relax and soak all the beauty the Lake District has to offer.

Otters Reach sits nestled within the quaint rustic hamlet of Spark Bridge, where you are sure to be charmed!

The village lies on the River Crake just below Coniston water.

A perfect retreat for those wanting the best of both worlds – the beauty of the Lake District and the coastal villages and sand dunes of the western Lakes and coast.

Spectacular landscapes greet you ranging from magnificent Lakeland fells to serene tarns and bustling towns and villages are just a short drive away, not to mention the opportunities to discover the coastal villages along the way!

For those looking for peace and relaxation a leisurely cruise to Brantwood House, former home to John Ruskin may appeal or for those with a little more energy a hike up the Old Man of Coniston is both rewarding and exhilarating.

Converted from the offices of the Bobbin Mill, this delightful cottage offers traditional comfortable accommodation with cosy touches such as a wood burning stove in the lounge enabling you to curl up and relax on a winters evening.

Alternatively the summer months provide the ideal time to make use of the outside dining area for that refreshing glass of wine whilst taking in the charm of the cottage.

This accommodation is as it says in the advert. A small traditional cottage in a good location for the southern lakes. It is unashamedly a two up two down with a bathroom. But even 'oldy worldly' and 'traditional', today needs some modernisation. The living room and downstairs areas were, typically for a cottage like this, a bit dark and needed heat on at times even in June.. Indeed the need to put an immersion heater on and off for hot water was a bit of a bind. Having said that the radiators are modern and heated quickly The two bedrooms were surprisingly large compared to the downstairs area. One has a good ensuite. Comfortable with some storage. The kitchen is fairly basic and the electric cooker is dated. Having said that, it just about did for us. A small fridge and 'No freezer' did however give us, as a group of four adults, some self catering food storeage issues. Downstairs toilet was a plus for such a small cottage. The tv is modern and good sized and coverage is pretty good. It doesn't have wi-fi and having it is becoming a standard for us. We missed the ability to check the net for trips and search pubs, restaurants etc. Good location for the southern lakes with Coniston and Windermere nearby. For us, the cottage was just a base - If the weather had been bad and we had been confined to barracks for the week, then it would have been a different story...the cottage would probably have been a disappointment. . The outdoors is a small paved patio garden with a small round iron table and chairs - there is parking for one car at the rear but it seemed ok to park considerately out the front. The Farmers arms at the top of the road is very good for food and bailed out the kitchen issue. No disasters, no really crucial criticism and some good points hence the average grading. I have put it that I would not recommend it. I would have preferred a 'maybe' option. What I mean by that comment is that imo it needs a bit of upgrading and modernising but in our experience, you get what you pay for and we probably just about got that. But the competition is fierce and Otters Reach just needs to up its game to stay in competition.
